Taxi Parts Inc. now open on 1st Avenue
Didn't really see this one coming … a small auto parts shop primarily (presumably?) serving cab drivers just opened at 45 First Ave. (Suite 1C, per the awning) between East Second Street and East Third Street…
This shop moved here from Tenth Avenue and 35th Street after 25 years on the ground floor of a tenement building that is being demolished to make way for more Hudson Yards.
The First Avenue space was previously home to the barber shop that also bought gold.

See? Things aren't so bad here, after all. Now we have a place to buy our taxi parts.
ReplyDeleteI like it!
ReplyDeleteSomehow this heartens me; it seems like a move in a good direction. (And to have this arrive in place of a barber shop that also bought gold is kind of like replacing one classic with another!) THIS is Noo Yawk the way it oughta be!
ReplyDeleteThat has to be a front for something else.
ReplyDeleteThe vast majority of cab drivers don't own their cabs so they really couldn't give less of a shit about repairs or maintenance as long as the wheels (sort of) go round. And if you were going to open a place like this you would put it in LIC
@8:32am: I dunno, if you're a cab driver & your cab breaks down or needs a part while you're in Manhattan, LIC is a loooong way away!
ReplyDeleteIf it *is* a front for something else, that will be interesting...
Back in the day there was a joint like this on Ave A. My dads a trucker & that's where I got his gifts.
ReplyDeleteWell you can't get gas, but you can get a new rear view mirror...
Very happy to see this, and not a bit surprised that some people don't get it, as this seems to be the vast majority these days.
ReplyDeleteAnd since it's not visible from the High Line, maybe this one has a chance.
sorry, this is totally a front. cab drivers (as mentioned) do stop in to buy parts for cabs they don't own.
ReplyDeleteThere used to be "Worth Auto Parts" on Bowery between 5th and 6th, and there was another parts store across Bowery a block or two down. Ask me how I know this. As if I ever bought parts. Well, yeah, I did. Both of them were real gems BTW. Brand name parts, good prices, and the second place (whose name I don't know if I even ever knew) took the time to rummage through his shop for a mounting flange that I could use to replace one that broke off of the end of my SAAB's catalytic convertor.
ReplyDeleteWho knows? Maybe an egg store that's open only on Thursday mornings will open up. Yeah, I know, but I don't smoke :-)
Isn't it more convenient to get taxi parts delivered by uber?
ReplyDeleteThis guy is legit, he used to be on 10 ave and 35 st. I always buy parts from this guy. Prices are cheap because most taxi and limos buy from him.
