A reminder about Rainbow Music closing at the end of the month

In case you wanted one last look at the stacks of CDs, DVDs and cassettes at Rainbow Music… the store at 130 First Ave. near St. Mark's Place is closing on Sept. 30…

As previously reported, the proprietor, the Birdman, is retiring and closing his 17-year-old store.

  1. Mark my words. This will become another bar for bros and sorority girls. Barf.

  2. So what are the remaining record stores left in the East Village (to me bounded by and including the south side of 14th Street to the north side of Houston Street north to south, the East River to the east side of Broadway east to west)? I say Other Music and Good Records. What else? Sounds is closing soon.

  3. @ anon 4:21 — Turntable Lab on East 7th Street ... A-1 Records on East 6th Street ... Academy Records on East 12th Street … the East Village Vintage Collective on East 12th Street has a few used LPs to dig through as well...

  4. Turntable Lab and EVVC aren't record stores, more like places which sell records as part of their stock, so really only four real record stores left in the EV in A-1, Academy, Good Records, and Other Music with the last one being the only store carrying records by current, active bands. I could see all these places closing inside five years. Sad and pathetic.
