  1. The Halloween Dog Parade is the worst corporate sponsored gentrifier that attracts wealthy sniffers from all around the world. World press is the worse possible thing for the neighborhood. Makes people want to live here. Thy love to squash you low life rent stabilized shut-ins. Please tell the organizer to take this act elsewhere-thank you. Propoganda for developers.

  2. Anonymous 10:21...Noooo! The dog parade is probably the greatest event (behind the dance parade) in the whole East Village.

    You're probably a cat person...

  3. Dog parade is cool but it's disgusting that the corporate dog food company got involved, not sure how or why that ended up being allowed to happen?

  4. Anonymous 12:39, It just like the corporate sponsorship of Wigstock. These things either grow or die.

  5. Indeed, the Dance Parade is great because it's low culture. More like events we used to have. I love the crowd that it brings in, and the natives around here really love it. Dancers are the true bohemians. Unfortunately none of these dancers can afford to live in the area anymore, but people who attend the Halloween Dog parade can.

The Dog Parade is the opposite. The marketing targets people fromall around the world, good for hotels, tourism, professional photographers, developers, corporations, wealthy people who have taken over our city and find no problem with luxury housing, tenant harrassment, hyper-gentrification, etc.

The dog from Austrailia who won last year told me it was his first time to NYC and that he now wanted to move to the East Village. He said he had a few dollars and that the trip only set him back 20,00 G's.

  6. I meant $20,000 G's. Ha!

  7. The dog parade has been around for 25 years. That means since 1990. This is every bit as "bohemian" as anything you can compare it to. What else has both survived this long & stayed in the neighborhood?

  8. Anonymous 1:57, The dog told you that? No wonder he won!

  9. Ugh. OK, the dog's owner told me, not the dog.

    Also, I mean 20 G's, as in $20,000. Not 20,000 G's, which would be $20,000,000.

I hope I didn't mess this one up to.

  10. The dog parade was nice when it was a place for locals to bring their dogs in funny homemade costumes. Now people come from all over the world, spend large sums to get here, stay here and outfit their pure breed pooches. The dog parade now typifies "New York as a Brand" fashioned by Bloomie. This is the NY Taylor Swift loves and croons about, the NY that we can't afford to live in anymore. The dog parade does contribute to it and anyone who doesn't see that is a fool. Oh and I love dogs, that's why I wouldn't ever dress them in a silly costume that makes them look ridiculous.

Those days are gone forever. Over a long time ago. Oh yeah.
