EVG contributor Derek Berg came across workers contracted by the city this morning installing (burying) rolls of these wire wool blankets of sorts four inches below the ground in Tompkins Square Park... apparently part of the Mayor's rat reservoir plan ...
... this material helps prevent the rats from burrowing or whatever rats do underground... the materials can also be fashioned into shorts and tank tops for anyone who may want to sit on the park lawn in the spring or summer months...
Looks like lunch for the furry little dears.
ReplyDeleteThis is a nice idea, but it will just force the rats to burrow out some other location, like 10th Street or along Ave A.
ReplyDeleteThe supers on our block put this wire mesh around the trees and the rats dug it up and dug around it in just a few days! I was impressed!

ReplyDeleteSteel wool is great for rodent control. I stuffed the space under my radiator with lots of steel wool to keep the mice out of my place. I had discovered a trail of mouse droppings years ago and figured out where the bugger was coming from. Worked like a charm.

ReplyDeleteI'd like to try some of that in my trailer, the mice come in, take the insulation and builds nests of it it, chew the wires, etc. Something must be done!
ReplyDeleteIt'll take a lot more than Steel Wool to keep NYC Rats at bay! They'l l find a way to overcome and prosper! Hell.. some of these Rats have a more rightful claim to NYC than a good 80% of this new transplant population who just moved here 1 year ago and act like NYC has the change to cater to them.. SCREW THAT! i'm siding with the Rats on this one!
