Car 5087, where are you?

While on patrol in Tompkins Square Park this morning, an NYPD cruiser got stuck in a snowbound area near the dog run...

A group of residents and fellow officers came together to assist...

EVG contributor Derek Berg noted that it took a little more than an hour to free the cruiser.

  1. My 15 pound dog and I walked around the spot with no problem. It was packed snow. The cruiser is front wheel drive and needs chains or serious snow tires. Or perhaps just be a Subaru.

  2. Maybe they should stop "patrolling" by driving their cars through the park? Maybe they could walk? Like one does in a park.

Also, Parks Dept need to plow the park and the sidewalk. Come on, guys. Someone's going to break their coccyx.

  4. And now all three are on the way to sick leave for bad backs and a major lawsuit for not having proper equipment for the job .

  6. But why the cruisers in the park? Are you bird watching?

  7. A really nice Trek hybrid can be purchased for $500. While that may not be helpful for 3 days of year when the Park is full of snow, the other 362 days are free and clear.

But community outreach is for losers (and San Diego).

  8. The cruisers in the park are obnoxious, ominous and threatening. I'd much prefer a cop just walking or sitting or standing there. It's a fucking park and they are constantly cruising around on that lurk.

  9. In honor of the blizzard, the NYPDs new motto should be "To Protect and Swerve."

  10. I've never felt threatened by a police car. Probably because I'm not a criminal.

  11. what are we gonna do now, what are we gonna do now?
uh I heard chains might be the thing, might be the thing...
how would we get chains around the tires????
    I don't know what we're gonna do
I only know how to kick the shit out of unsuspecting community members looking to make this area a better place
    I don't know what we're gonna do :-(
