This prompted several readers to note the changes on other nearby corners of Avenue C.
So let's start with the northeast corner of Avenue C and Second Street... as reported last summer, mixologist Albert Trummer is opening a cocktail bar in the space that last housed Adinah's Farm...

The space is called Sanatorium ... no word on an official opening date just yet... (their Instagram account said February...)

Meanwhile, Majesty Pizza and Grill on the southwest corner of Avenue C and Third Street closed back in January...
...an eviction notice followed in early February...
An EVG reader who lives nearby notes the pizzeria started selling fresh fruits and vegetables at the end of the year... to give people who didn't want pizza a reason to stop by... apparently they didn't.

And across Avenue C... the corner buildings remain abandoned...
There has been a full vacate order on 32 Avenue C at the corner since August 2012. There's nothing on file with the DOB to suggestion anything happening here any time soon.
apparently money talks louder than neighborhood petitions. the last thing we need on ave c is a high-end cocktail bar....although an actual sanatorium will be needed as a respite from the noise.

If the clientele is fabulous and doesn't SCREAM and yell whilst going to-and-fro the location like a bunch of fucktardos, I'm all for it. 'Cause anyone that knows me knows that I'm not against having a good time.

I talked to Albert Trummel on my way home the other night as they were working on the space and he said they were going to do a soft opening/open invitation for the neighbors in a couple of weeks. At first I was excited about the prospect of a nice cocktail bar on the corner but he's already had a few parties for friends and family (I'm guessing) and he blasts shitty club music, so that's disappointing. It'll still be nice to be able to grab a quick drink after work, I hope.
ReplyDeleteAnd, my S.O. and I recently got scoop on the bldg on the N.E. corner of 3rd and C. We were talking to the guys in the "newish" tobacco/bodega btwn 2nd and 3rd and they're the same guys that used to occupy the corner. Apparently there is a family of seven or so that have an apartment in the building and they refuse to vacate. Something about a 3 BR apt and paying under $1,000 a month for it. They'll chain themselves to the radiator if they have to and make the owner's life hell. Or something.
Anyway, that's the gossip from the corner, wondered when you were going to notice our little slice of the pie.

Are you only listing places that have liquor licenses? Or are you talking about 3rd street—not 3rd avenue—and avenue D?

Are they paying on an old lease and not their regulated rent? You don't make clear on the problem here; is it that they're old, not new tenants? We have a multi-generational family of seven living in a 2 BR on our first floor, and they're rent-controlled—so they've been there at least 45 years.

ReplyDeleteIt's a 3 or 4 bedroom apt and they're paying $750 and they've been there for years so it's probably an old lease. Forgot to mention they're the last tenants in that building and they can't sell the bldg until they're out, so say the tobacco store/bodega guys. That's all I got, I wish but the best for all involved.

ReplyDeletewas answering the comment above yours about lack of pizza. and the borders i listed were houston to the south, 14th to the north, 3rd ave to the west and ave D to the east.
Sorry I'm not a pizza addict/authority like you Ed, and you're not even that, you're a herb who just listed all the places on Yelp.
