Beetle House officially opens tonight
After a week or so in previews, Beetle House officially opens tonight at 308 E. Sixth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue.
As we've noted, Beetle House features "an atmosphere and menu inspired by the works of Tim Burton." (You can find the food and drinks menu at their website.)
DNAinfo's Allegra Hobbs had a preview piece on Monday. (Bedford + Bowery posted a preview here.)
Co-owner Zach Neil claims that the Beetlejuice impersonator spotted hanging outside the place wasn't affiliated with Beetle House. "He showed up at the bar one night, and he just kept showing up," Neil said.

The Stepford + Bourgeois piece reads like a cross between a giddy Yelp review and rambling teenage girl's diary found in the trash. Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteSo some guy keeps showing up dressed as Beetlejuice, but the bar has no idea who he is? Actually that is possible, since people dressed up like drunks keep showing up at Empire Biscuit at midnight, and they end up howling at the moon when they realize it's closed.
ReplyDelete^^^^^8:22 AM ^^^^^^ +1 (is that still a thing or is it so 2012 when Google+, and tumblr, died?)
ReplyDeleteStopped in a last Saturday around 5pm to sneak a peek. Long, narrow, dark...sort of Burtonesque, but mostly it is just another dark, narrow, watering hole in the EV. It is cute and I am sure it will have some appeal to Burton fans. Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetle....uh oh...no way....not saying it.....just in case. Will they have a special Christmas Eve? Or perhaps a good mock corpse wedding...or will Mr. Depp show up with Alice to make hats next Easter?
ReplyDeleteThere are no limits to the fun, flashy, stunts and events they could have.
I find the autonomous beetlejuice impersonator quite funny. I hope he is always there hanging in the corner, making the owner more and more uncomfortable each day. Like just bringing a crossword puzzle in, sitting alone, head down, and totally pulling off the regular guy having a pint after an honest day's work... just in full beetlejuice costume and makeup.
ReplyDeleteKidult kulture is the new norm. Dressing up like your favorite corporate created character is where it apparently is at. Dress up holidays are now celebrated any day of the year. Don't have a personality? No worries try this one on and everyone will recognize and like the new you.
ReplyDeleteI'm holding out for the Human Centipede Bar.
ReplyDeleteI don't wanna grow up
ReplyDeleteI'm a fly over kid
I'm 28 years old
And my life's on the skids
Maybe you're sort of throwing stones from a glass house if you're commenting on whose life is on the skids. I mean, if the issue in your life is that you're going to a Tim Burton theme bar, I'm not really sure it's time for an intervention. I'll even go out on a limb and say I'm not really sure I see that as really indicative at all of how your life may be going. Some people like Tim Burton. Some don't.
ReplyDeleteBut, if you're constantly bitching about how you can't afford anything and get irrationally angry about things that have really nothing to do with you, that might be a sign that you may not be the bastion of success, power and fulfillment that you think you are.
The East Village is in its final stages of its metamorphosis into little Orlando.
ReplyDeleteWe already have a Human Centipede bar. Check out Bar None at 3AM.
ReplyDeleteThere's seriously a guy making up a song questioning other people's maturity? What a loser.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that the business plan is to squeeze as much money out of the bar as possible over the next 6 months, then shutter leaving the LLC with a huge amount of debt and a lawsuit from Tim Burton/Warner Brothers/whoever. That's why the owner claims the Beetlejuice impersonator is totally unaffiliated; hiring a Beetlejuice impersonator would hurt them in the inevitable lawsuit they willl face.
ReplyDeleteWhere's Pee Wee?
ReplyDeleteI just walked by and the dude dressed as Beetlejuice is now inside greeting people. I'm not believing this whole story that this dude just showed up.
ReplyDeleteOmg I am soooo there not
ReplyDeleteI'm not a loser, I'm simply taking someone else's creative work, tweaking it slightly, and passing it off as my own. I'd be a loser if I did this AND opened a Toys R Us themed bar.
ReplyDeleteFrom bros to hos
To anything goes
It's the greatest themed bar there is
I don't wanna grow up
Because if I did
I wouldn't be a Flyover Kid
Everyday is Halloween in the EV.
