Hey, the Funkiberry space will become a pizzeria (again)



Workers have been busy inside the former Funkiberry froyo space on Third Avenue and East 12th Street. This past week, an EVG reader saw workers bringing in "regular, not wood burning, ovens." A worker also told EVG correspondent Steven that the space was to become a pizzeria. Not sure at the moment who the tenant will be.

Probably would have made sense to leave the pizza ovens intact after AAA (New) Amici Pizza got RentHikeitis and closed in July 2013. The corner space had been home to at least two pizzerias before this.

F-berry closed in March 2015 after nine months in business.

    Is there anything more New York than buying a pizza slice and eating if you wish while walking to your next destination? Fro-yo people always looked for someplace to sit and discuss food trends or something banal like that. Pizza rules, ok.

    I hope it's a real NYC slice not 99 cent bullshit.
    Really an interesting thing how they raised the rent so much on a longstanding pizzeria, dealt with all the turnover and changes and paperwork and bullshit, and now it's a pizzeria again.
    Let this be a lesson to idiot landlords

    How do we know that the landlord isn't collecting higher rent on the new pizzeria? Just because one guy doesn't think he can be profitable doesn't mean a new guy doesn't think it will work.

    The first pizzeria at that location was closed because somebody was knifed to death -- about 30 years ago?
