The new Mamoun's Falafel is now open on St. Mark's Place

The new Mamoun's location opened today at 30 St. Mark's Place ... a larger space a few storefronts away from their previous spot on the block between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.

  1. One of the first (if not the first) Falafel stand in NYC was on 1st Avenue at 14th St, next to the First Federal Bank, in a tiny closet of a space. This was back in 1967-68 or so, and falafel cost maybe 75 cents. Ah.... the olden days :-)

  2. I just ate falafel semi al fresco with my puppy. I say semi because it was a window seat. They haven't put their outdoor tables yet. They have at least 10 guys working there. You get a ticket after you pay. It was a wonderful feeling to be there on their first day. Great to see a spot that's so rooted in the EV expand! And the falafel tasted even better than before!

  5. Who knew a little falafel shop would end up as one of the very last strongholds of old world NYC coolness. By old world I mean 20th century.

  6. Best I've ever had. One of the rare "oh they are the best" places I fully agree with.
