Hi, Ben Shaoul would like to buy your building

Slightly amused/mostly horrified residents of a co-op on East 11th Street passed along the following unsolicited email from a rep for developer Ben Shaoul... addressed to a Maria, even though there isn't anyone by that name living in the building...

  1. OMG. WHY WON'T THE VULTURES JUST FLY AWAY? ENOUGH ALREADY! My skin is crawling. LET US LIVE IN OUR GOD-DAMNED HOMES! DON'T YOU HAVE ENOUGH FUCKING MONEY ALREADY? I mean, these building owners with portfolios only see dollar signs; they never see people, they never see a community.

  2. So if there is no Maria, who received the email?

  3. @10:46am: Ben Shaoul is sure that for the right price, he can have anything/everything he wants. Co-op shmoe-op, what does he care? It's not a matter of people's lives, homes, community, or anything human at all; it's just about "I'll make you an offer; how much do you want for it?"

He sees a building, and it's just a pile of bricks with dollar signs on it. If he were a barber, he'd never see a *person* sitting in the barber chair; he'd just see hair with a dollar sign on it.

He's like an annoying guy you don't want to date, but he's sure you REALLY want to date him, so he keeps after you because he's sure eventually you'll realize you want to go out with him.

  4. I wonder if this is how he got Katz to sell their air rights for that monstrosity on Houston Street and a local affordable housing organization at 250-254 East 4th to sell their inclusionary housing air rights so he could build that monstrosity on Ave A.

  5. But will he move into the $Bbbbbb billion dollar range?
