I was able to catch the first four bands. Some pretty decent musicianship (some other parts of the music that weren't my cup of tea). Maybe I'm missing something, but none of the four bands seemed like punk bands. Overall enjoyable.
PUKE ISLAND is a response to what an organizer of this event encountered after original Punk Island organizer SLUG passed his event on to a group that includes members of ABC No Rio.
According to the PUKE ISLAND organizer, the new group puts bands through a "committee", with a bureaucratic process that disregards bands that aren't connected that he feels deserve to be heard. He's got a point.
Today's show was pretty good, except for Purple Pam, with her Flesh Eaters, who was fucking FANTASTIC!!!!

I haven't seen any signs up for this. One thing I've noticed about these punk shows is that there's almost no advance notice.
ReplyDeleteIs this an anti-Punk Island thing?
ReplyDeleteIf so it's comical considering the city is letting both events happen, so spare us the faux revolutionary stance.
A real punk concert would go down without a permit until the cops shut it down.
Puke Island, is that what we're calling the Central Lawn now that it's become a campground for the great unwashed masses and the auxiliary dog run?
ReplyDeleteIt's not an auxiliary dog run. There's a sign right at the entry that says "No Dogs Allowed". What's the matter with you? /s

ReplyDeleteBut is the puke served frozen and rolled?

Is Purple Pam aware that there already was a band called the Flesh Eaters? If not, she should be.
ReplyDeleteEe-gads, a committee! Run for the hills!
ReplyDeleteThere is absolutely nothing wrong with Punk Island. And the show on Sunday was pretty good too, what I saw of it.
Faux posturing is not punk!
Alex in NYC, there is also a virus with the same name.
