Another look at Village Farm Grocery's watermelon tossing assembly line

On Wednesday, we posted photos from Derek Berg showing the assembly line taking delivery of watermelons outside Village Farm Grocery on Second Avenue and Ninth Street.

Upon seeing that, EVG reader Daniel shared this clip of the crew at work in May...

  1. So... why didn't they park around the corner and shorten the line?

  2. Probably because there's a bike lane, bus lane, marching band lane, pedestrian seating lane or some other failed vision of "progress" that gets in the way of the city operating like a city.

  3. Thanks, Notorious! You are right - they are parked on 9th, where they don't have to play in traffic.

  4. One of those guys isn't wearing gloves! Call the Health Department!! Eek!

  5. Great, just what we need, a bunch of "workers" blocking up the sidewalk with their antics and potentially endangering everybody else who's just trying to shop or drink or whatever normal people do. I've never seen anything so selfish and irresponsible.

  6. I would like to see more tossing assembly line videos, please! Thank you!

  7. Really, Rich Garella?? You've never seen ANYTHING so selfish or irresponsible? Get your shit together.

Thanks for posting this, EV Grieve. This reminds me of the NYC I grew up in! Love your blog :)

  8. Uh, Rich's comment is sarcasm.

  9. Why didn't they open up one of the panels on the side of their outdoor space? I'll bet there's supposed to be an exit back there in case of fire, errant sidewalk taxis, etc. anyway.

  10. Where's the tossed salad?!
