ReplyDeleteA friend of ours used to have to use municipal trash cans to dispose of his household trash, so he made a ritual of burning all his mail before he dumped it.

Most likely a knockoff; most cans like that that end up on the street are flimsy as shit, and have some issue that caused them to be dumped.

ReplyDeleteSay I am fined for ten pieces of junk mail addressed to me being in a street bin. I would dispute the fine with the following claims:
1. I didn't throw out the junk mail, whoever in charge of taking out the garbage for my building did and included it in with his/her illegal dumping, and since there is no video evidence that I threw it out, it's safe to assume the building threw it out as illegal dumping of household trash is a common activity among building owners. Also common sense people: Why would I throw junk mail into a street bin when I would simply throw it into my own trashcan then throw out the bag of trash for the building to take care of?
2. The city has never sent a mailing informing inviduduals that throwing household trash into street bins is illegal, so even if I threw out the junk mail how was I supposed to know?
I would win because no one would counter the dispute as I'm betting maybe ten tickets like this are issued throughout the entire city a year.
12:08. Doesn't matter if you knew or not. The city is not required to send mailings regarding every possible violation, misdemeanor, and felony. Why is the super more likely to throw your mail in a trashcan than you are? You might do it because your walking down the street with a few letters and want to get rid of them. Or you don't want to spend a quarter on a recycling bag. Do you think they need video evidence to fine you? Ah, to be so young again...
