Center lawn halved for the rest of the summer in Tompkins Square Park
Workers yesterday closed off the west half of the lawn in Tompkins Square Park for the rest of the summer, and through September...

Renovation signage points to "cleaning, seeding, composting."
Regardless of the closure, not everyone heeded the signage yesterday afternoon...

And this will likely mean that the last free screening (the Leo-Claire version of "Romeo and Juliet") of the summer on Thursday will be on the plaza area.

That actually looks like a dead body at a crime scene. Perhaps someone should go and poke that person just to make sure.
ReplyDeleteSo annoying, wasn't it last summer that shit was closed for most of it? Ridiculous, we barely have space as it is, learn to take care of the lawn, parks dept!
ReplyDeleteTwo beat park cops in there 24-7 and all the nonsense in there ends.
ReplyDeleteSeems more of a strategy to get the crusties to camp out elsewhere. BTW 12:49, it's pretty much impossible to preserve a lawn if it trampled on and covered up with blankets all day long.
ReplyDeleteI just came from the park... Noticed that there are about 15 crusties behind the barrier, in various stages of nodding out... Three cops were standing there watching the scene...
ReplyDeleteWhat do you want them to do? This is DiBlasios NYPD now that Bratton is leaving. They want to do away with broken windows and quality of life crimes. The crusties and their ilk can do as they please. Public drinking, urinating, shooting up, aggressive panhandling. Its all good. Cant criminalize the homeless. If you complain youre an elitist classist Trump supporting gentrifier who needs to check your privilege. If youre a hardworking, taxpaying,aw abiding US citizen you are the bad guy in this tale if two cities. Comprendo?
DeleteSince Crusties obviously don't know how to read signs, the sign should say, "This area reserved for Crusties who don't know how to read signs."
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's time to compost the crusties. They're just going to destroy the other half of the lawn now, you know.
ReplyDeleteThe sign says they are composting. Maybe that body is part of the natural composting process. It's the circle of life.
ReplyDeleteWho park our park everyone should enjoy this Maybe these people need a relax holiday in the park
ReplyDeleteMaking a clear area for the alien mothership to land. That's upper management thinking! Kudos to the parks Dept!
ReplyDeleteWe should just flood 311 with complaints about the crusties. Dogs aren't supposed to be on that lawn and also the park is supposed to be a smoke free zone which as far as I can tell is never enforced unfortunately.
ReplyDeletei've been complaining to 311 on a daily basis via the website, phone, and app for almost a month now after witnessing one of these vile creatures with his dick out peeing on one of the trees in the center lawn in the middle of the day with a little girl 10 yards away and learning that the sweet gardener woman has been threatened by them on multiple occasions. i've photographed and turned in pictures of trash all around them, their dogs illegally on the center lawn, needles, human feces, dogs digging up the plants the gardener spends all day working on, and the furniture and tents they've dragged in there and absolutely nothing has been done. i was about to give up when i spoke to one of the parks dept people the other day who said they closed that half because they found so many needles in there that they didn't feel comfortable letting people onto that part of the lawn, and now they've just decided to re-seed the whole thing since there's so much damage done to it from dozens of the crusties spreading themselves out on it night and day. the parks people are pulling their hair out in frustration over these anarchist junkies who refuse all help from church and shelter representatives and often spit and curse at them if they even come near their encampment. the gardener spends her days in that park trying to keep it nice for the people who live in this neighborhood to enjoy, not for these assholes to use as their public toilet and garbage can. it's the cops that are doing nothing and unfortunately the parks dept can only do so much without their assistance. so they said for us all to keep calling 311 and complaining so at least they have proof to show the police that this is a serious issue. i've lived in this neighborhood for a long time and i've seen the way this park was 20 or 30 years ago. the homeless people who camped out back then were tragic cases and generally harmless people. these traveler kids have zero respect for themselves or any of us, have chosen this lifestyle, generally come from white middle class backgrounds, and should not be allowed to destroy this oasis of the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Needle Park South. That's why I stay out of this grassy area, you never know what you might step on in there. Unfortunately it looks like there are more crusty ODs on the way.
ReplyDeleteProtest the crusties.
ReplyDeleteThe crusties are gone, the crusties are gone!
