Shepard Fairey creating a mural on 11th Street at 1st Avenue

Shepard Fairey started work today on a mural above the former Schnitz space on 11th Street at First Avenue...

The mural is his second collaboration with the L.I.S.A Project.

Back in the spring/summer of 2010, Fairey's May Day piece on the Bowery Mural wall was bombed and eventually destroyed.

  1. I am excited! Let's start a poll! Will this mural by SF be:
    A)kicked apart somehow.
    B)tagged and paint bombed
C)have huge dicks drawn all over it or
    D)ALL OF THE ABOVE.

OR WILL IT JUST SAY COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL....at the end of the week.

  2. Sweet. Generic "Asian" girl wearing "Chi-Com" hat, clutching Peace Dove over the center of an Imperial Japanese flag, slapped on the side of a German-themed restaurant.

No wonder the Lenin statue took a stroll south to clear its head !

  4. We need more art, more of this type of beautification in the EV. It not only enhances the EV it reminds us that the EV is still a vibrant area filled with artists of all types and people who appreciate the arts of all types.

  5. Eden Bee, I have no doubt this mish-mosh is going up so high precisely to forestall any or all of the art criticism perpetrated upon his Houston Street buffoonery!

  7. In other murals that have been tagged news: 2nd Ave & East 12th Street (side wall of the nail salon, NW corner). Pretty much covered.

  8. Shepard Fairey is a terrible artist. His "Andre has a posse" experiment was brilliant, but that was decades ago at this point. His soviet propaganda-esque collages would have been relevant in the 70s, but he's been beating that drum for his entire adult life... it's 2016, this garbage just looks like a shitty t-shirt in a mall. Kudos for being listed alongside real muralists, I guess.

  9. I reckon this is the first time I've ever thought, "Gee whiz, I'm glad I don't live on First & 12th anymore." Maybe instead of just 'COOL,' go for 'DROOL...'

  10. Is there a subliminal message in the FOR RENT signage of a former German schnitzel place and appearance of faux Maoist propaganda?

  11. Communist propaganda is getting old and tired. Something provocative would have been an American patriotic theme or something like that? I guess SF is ashamed of being American.

  12. It's high up but I have faith in other real street artists hating him so much this too will be destroyed somehow. He is pretty despised by most for his plagiaries and then lawsuits and lying in court and getting caught. He is the Shia Laboef of "street art" and I have faith a huge dick will cover this soon. It's probably actually sponsored by Target.®
