Lines ahoy!: Trader Joe's coming to Essex Crossing on the Lower East Side

ICYMI: The announcement came this morning that Trader Joe's is coming to site 5 of the sprawling Essex Crossing complex on the Lower East Side. The TJ's is slated for a large retail space at 145 Clinton St. at Grand.

The 15-story building will include a 22,000-square-foot Planet Fitness on the second floor when construction wraps in 2018. You can head to The Lo-Down for more details on this development.

A TJ's recently opened in Kip's Bay. And maybe one will still open at 500 E. 14th St. That incoming CityTarget is only expected to take half of the retail space at 14th Street and Avenue A.

    Boo.
    This one is going to 10 times more crowded than the existing 14th st one. And word on the street is that 14th and B is not going to happen. Which is too bad, as it would be the only real relief for the long lines TJ shoppers currently face in this neighborhood.

    I dont understand why ths is happening.The bridge traffic is bad: it will be 1,000 times worse, and fatalities, I bet.

    I am not a fan of Trader Joe's. The location on 14th street is a joke. At times, they've hired a bounder to man the door. A fucking grocery store with a bouncer. What kind of shit is that where a line forms around a corner, where it takes an hour just to gain admittance into the main area? I certainly hope this location is larger. Out in LA, the locations are much wider and have no lines or bouncers whatsoever.

    I actually think this one will be significantly less of an ordeal than the Union Square TJ's, just the way the Bowery Whole Foods is nowhere near the shitshow that the Union Square one is. That this LES TJ's is going into an area that is less accessible to most people (beyond locals) than the Bowery Whole Foods to me says it will be significantly less crowded, and will serve an area that is currently pretty underserved.

    TJ's has some great deals (you seriously cannot find nuts cheaper anywhere else) and really yummy stuff, I don't see what there is to hate on here. Thanks for coming TJ's!!

    And hopefully this will mean the city will actually have to deal with the dangerous Houston intersections, now that TJ's money will be behind the complaints.

    The more stores they open the less pressure on the existing ones. People come from all over to the 14th St location. And now that 33rd & 2nd(?) is open it will help spread out the shoppers. Great store. And I've never waited more than 15 minutes. Never. Stop complaining and enjoy the discounts and quality.
