As noted last month, the Citibank at 50 Avenue A is closing for good in January. Several readers commented that the building housing the bank branch is rather unattractive.
I never thought much about it. There is a residence in the building for sale. Perhaps it's much better from the inside. Here's a look at the listing via Streeteasy:

ReplyDeleteWow that's a lot of rusticity for one apartment in NYC. The furniture must have cost a total a $78 to build and think of the money saved on sheet rock by living in a sea or exposed brick. The faux fireplace though takes the prize for most suburban element. Having said all that this place will sell, too bad the listing forgot to mention how it is located in the heart of the East Village.

ReplyDeleteI looked at a 2BR apartment in that building in 2000! I recall that it cost $525K. The exposed brick and view out the back were great. It was very small for a 2BR, though, and there were crackheads living next door. The neighbors had giant perpetually barking dogs and there was dog poop and garbage all over their front balcony, and the sliding glass doors were so smeared with dog-nose-effluvia you could barely see thru the glass. Inside was just a tumble of clothes, towels, detritus. It did not seem like a good buy.
