Per the notice from the Department of Design and Construction:
We would like to extend an open invitation to the community to attend our Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for The Astor Place/Cooper Square Reconstruction Project and The reinstallation of The Alamo Cube.
The refurbished cube returned on Nov. 1 after nearly two years away during the Astor Place-Cooper Square reconstruction. The rain delay seems like a rather fitting end to a project that which was originally expected to be wrapped up in the fall of 2015.
Great, let's reschedule the ribbon cutting ceremony tomorrow and hour earlier when most people are heading to or at work.

Understandable. Wouldn't want anyone getting electrocuted when the switch is flipped on to make it light up and spin ;)

ReplyDeleteAnon 11:24: You go ahead and suggest a day and time. Watch the wags come on EVG and find a reason why your suggestion is a dead end. Let's face it neither you nor I care about the ceremony; it is the idea that they are doing it with disregard for -- for what?/ for whom?? It will be over in a few minutes and we can go back to complaining about something else in the redesign of Astor Place. Surely there are fifty or more new restaurants and juice stands opening in the next few days which demand that we be there to try them out.

ReplyDeleteFriday at noon. Neighborhood residents off from work that day, neighborhood /area workers could see it, and tourists just before having lunch somewhere thus having the ceremony at that time would actually spark lunchtime business. You go see The Alamo freed of its ugly barricades then get lunch, shop wherever, grab a coffee/drink somewhere.
Saturday 2pm would be cool also. Most people are off from work and up from their Friday night hangovers and konkouts.
Speak for yourself re: what other people including I care about. I'd go to the ribbon-cutting ceremony if I could make it.
They are doing it out of disregard for neighborhood residents and workers. 8:30am is a fuc king stupid time to have the ceremony.
Update: The Cube will be released from the holding pen as soon as some well intentioned but annoying people stop insisting on calling it The Alamo.
