SantaCon battle lines forming

Just 10 days out now from SantaCon 2016. So far, no word on where the annual [____________] will take place. Regardless, even if the hot action happens elsewhere, there are sure to be plenty of residual Santas and friends in these parts...

... which is why battle lines are already forming...

Once again, the Continental at 23 Third Ave. near St. Mark's Place is welcoming the SantaConners...

...though the sign arrived some six weeks later than last year...

Meanwhile! Around the corner at 6 St. Mark's Place...

...Barcade has put up some No Santa signage...

And noted...their response to the amNewYork piece on how to avoid SantaCon...

  1. Oh boy here we go again. If you live next to a bar please stop in and tell anyone who will listen that if they support this "event" you and your friend's will not support their business the other 364 days of the year. The suspense is a joke we all know this shit show will grace our neighborhood again this year.

  4. I am all for getting the locals together to boycott santacon bars...

  5. I like the idea of a protest in front of Santacon creator / organizer Costume Jim Glaser's building. I'll be there!

  6. There is way too much going wrong in the world that deserves protesting - and it's not Santacon. It's one day out of your lives if you let it be one day. Instead, everyone spends weeks leading up to it in a state of panic and anger.

And no, I'm not a troll. I'm a resident of the East Village for the last 16 years that doesn't agree with you.

  7. Whatever anyone thinks of SantaCon, how can someone support a boycott, or a rally, that is sponsored anonymously? Does the ALL-CAP promoter care to come forward?

  8. I forgot how much screaming came with this every year

    On both sides.

  9. Barcade you just made a new customer. In addition to avoiding pro-Santa bars, let's also throw some support to the good ones.

  10. Santa con : The Donald Trump of bar crawls.

  11. For those that say "what's the big deal it's just one day of a long year" well you haven't be paying attention. St Pat's day has a similar yet less organized drunkards holiday, and I have witnessed another bar crawl in the spring, the next Santa con in its early days. When something like SC makes money you can bet there will be more events coming just like it. The nab has already be degraded with noise from drunks every weekend (brunch through late late night). Maybe if you had to clean up the mess in front of your building each year you would be less tolerant too.

  13. Let the organizers of SantaCon come forward first. How come they get to be anonymous every year and put on this total shitshow?

  14. Anonymous 8:51, Ha ha ha. Everyone knows who the organizers of SantaCon are. The rally is in front of the building where one of them lives. Sheesh!

  15. The organizer is "costume" Jim Glaser.

  16. Are you kidding me? Nobody here knows who all the people are behind SantaCon, If the City knows who the organizers are, then why don't they require them to get a permit? What aren't the SantaCon organizers held responsible for not letting people even know where the event will be held until the night before? They should at minimum get a permit and be required to give notice to the neighborhoods they plan to invade, Do you really foolishly believe that Jim Glaser is the only organizer, or are others hiding behind those Twitter and Facebook accounts? Why is Jim Glaser allowed to get away with pretending to have no control over what happens every single year if he is the organizer?

This whole thing looks like a moneymaking scheme organized by the exact same East Village bars every year--they even have posters printed up to promote it in their windows. These East Village bars should not be allowed to terrorize us with SantaCon every single year and then be allowed to hide behind some costume maker with a Facebook account. It's the bars who are really to blame here.

  17. Boycott Continental for selling out to NYU, bros, and sises.

  18. Santacon comes to the EV because other communities won't allow it. We get tenants other communities won't rent to(read fratboy/girls). We also get street fairs and product promotions other communities don't want. Why? All we just have to do is look around and see who represents us - party-first politicians. We are SPREAD -EAGLE for all and any. COME AND GET IT, WE'RE THE EV. WHO CARES... WHO CARES!

    1. What's the difference between Santa Claus and SantaCon?

Santa Claus always stops at three Hos.

  19. Anyone who has any kind of fun at The 13th Step or the Continental deserves to wait on a two hour line to get in and then get puked on by everyone later. Josie's won't allow anyone in with a santa hat on. Lots of bar dont let them in as they dont tip at ALL, take their drinks outside which can get the bar a fine and also harass every women walking by. Anyway I will be around it taking videos and pics of people passed out in the gutter by noon.

  20. Can't we form a ring of steel around the EV and just keep the drunk hordes of bros and hos out? Stand by to repel boarders!

  21. The reason they're not required to get a permit is that they are not reserving public space for their exclusive use. Dressing as Santa and going out does not require a permit.
