The Second Avenue location of Tompkins Square Bagels is inching toward completion... there have been a few delays at 184 Second Ave. between 11th Street and 12th Street (for instance, there was an electrical problem with the main line to the building).
In this video filmed the third week of October, owner Christopher Pugliese discusses what patrons can expect from this location and offers some details about the space.
As for the opening, he's looking at Nov. 14.

The obsession in America on food--and letting everyone know that you are someone special if you obsess about food is probably a sign that our civilization is at an end. You don't hear people obsessing about a book, a play, a new book of poetry. The French express for this is fin d'aricot.

ReplyDeleteMan. You people just have to complaint about something. Get the hell out of the City for a while and get yourself some fresh air. It's a commercial space. Something has to go in there, might as well be a quality bagel place. If you want to open a poetry reading room on 2nd Avenue then I urge you to obtain the necessary financing and see how that works for you.

I actually agree with anon 9:54. When I was a kid in BK, opening up a bagel shop was about as newsworthy as my grandpas horse showing or even placing at the Gravesend OTB branch. That said, I am greatful for the interest and all the support. Hopefully we make some folks happy
ReplyDeleteKeep doing what you do Chris. I hope the knishes, bialys and blintzes work out. My first job was in a bagel shop spinning bagels and working the counter when I was 14 yo. I recently had friends from Russia visit and say they wanted something authentically NY so I brought them for bagel egg sandwiches on Ave A. You run a great shop that always reminds me of my first job and I hope you achieve even greater success in your 2nd Ave location.

ReplyDeletefor 2nd Ave Dave/11:14am. I was wondering why I got trashed when I commented similarly in response to Squishy opening on St Marks. I was FLAMED! Just cuz I suggested that perhaps, just maybe, a commercial enterprise might have a positive effect on the neighborhood. That's where I'm wrong. The intent of EV Grieve is to commiserate. To mourn. To be woeful, hoping perhaps nostalgia for a by-gone era will reincarnate the area. Often you'll end up recognizing that the nostalgia is poorly concealed anger. Sorry about that, Im trying to incite anything. So, consider a positive remark a potential source of agitation and you may be in jeopardy of wrath. Hoping this helps.
