Update 12/13. We have a follow-up post with more details here.
According to a report in the Post, a 25-year-man was shot in the gut after moving orange traffic cones outside the Hells Angels HQ on Third Street early Sunday morning.
The victim, identified as David Martinez, and his friends were looking for a parking spot when they spotted the space between First Avenue and Second Avenue.
A biker came out of the club’s headquarters and told them to stop what they were doing, sparking an argument between him and Martinez, police sources said.
Their dispute then turned violent, and other bikers spilled out of the clubhouse.
One of those men ran up to Martinez and shot him in the gut, sources said.
The Daily News reported that Martinez's friends "loaded him into their Mercedes-Benz and drove him to Bellevue Hospital, where he’s expected to survive."
As for descriptions of the suspects. The Post noted: "Cops were looking for three suspects, described only as white men most likely riding motorcycles."
Has the reputation of the Hell's Angels been forgotten? How could anyone argue with these guys which all scary thugs on TV and in movies has been styled after? Glad the young guy will survive and of course who ever is responsible pays the price.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of moron picks a fight with the HA?
ReplyDeletewhat sort of idiot removes cones from in front of the HA HQ?
ReplyDeleteThey should remove those cones. Don't quote me on that.
ReplyDeleteNot saying it's right, but when you commit the ultimate E.V. newbie error, you pay the price.
ReplyDeleteGee! You blame the guy who got shot, who was out late, might have been drunk, whatever.
ReplyDeleteToo bad the neighborhood can't force these overgrown boys to give up there parking spots for there little bikes. No one else gets to reserve parking spots in front of their buildings.
Says the anonymous person.... LMAO.
DeleteBecause no one else is the HA dumbass
DeleteEvery time an ass clown that hits a motorcycle parking their car, it costs upwards of $1000. Pretty much anywhere else in the world, you can park your motorcycle on the sidewalk, avoiding said ass clowns. But not here in greedy, tax NYC, thank Bloomturd and don't move a fucking cone or touch or mess with a motorcycle
DeleteLaughs the anonymous troll
DeleteThere seems to be a pattern of violence emanating from here - as a native New Yorker it's hardly the first time I've hear such news. One has to wonder why it's happening and what can be done to stop it.
ReplyDeletePS - I've had a friend request pending to join your Facebook page since July if you check your pending requests under the name William E(leaving out for privacy).
What can be done? Well, for starters, people can stop fucking with the hell's angels.
DeleteReally people should know their comfort level. Now everyone thinks everywhere in the city is for them, and it's simply not true. You have to be aware of your surroundings, and create your own personal sphere of comfort.
For alot of people, being near the hell's angels is outside of that sphere.
Don't these tourists know that this is just the Hells Angels version of valet parking?
ReplyDeleteAs much as I loathe the spoiled brats who have taken over the neighborhood, no one should be shot over a parking space, or anything for that matter. It's a reminder that there are entitled white men all over the spectrum.
ReplyDeleteThat's what you get when u mess with millennial's get for messing with the wrong crowd.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 9.19, I'm with you 100%.
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to say it is right, I'm just going to blame the victim and implicitly defend a group of racist, homophobic meth dealers.
ReplyDeleteBut they were so nice to several of us straight whites in the 70s!!!
you blame a guy looking for parking to know that there are private spots for folks like the hells angels - or to know they can die if they dare take on a bunch of old thugs who think they own eAST 3rd street.
ReplyDeleteafter all these years of ignoring the violence one would think the police might pay attention to a shooting.
it is s thaad that the comments are so hostile to the victim (unless these guys were wering santa costumes)
does it matter that they drove a Mercedes-Benz?
Totally agreed with 9:19. You don't get to block off parking spots in front of your building. It should have been the NYPD removing the cones.
ReplyDeleteJust goes to show that the HA, despite their claims to the contrary are just a band of thugs. Time for the marshall to seize the clubhouse and get the scum out.
You'd think the Angels would escalate to hitting them with bats first.
ReplyDeleteFerchrissakes. Recognizing that the guy was either stupid or ignorant (to move the cones and then, apparently, argue with the HA instead of meekly apologizing) is not the same as "blaming" him for getting shot by them, or putting responsibility on him *instead* of them. The shooter is 100% responsible. But we can still recognize that assuming the guy was not interested in being shot, what he did was not wrong, not immoral, not illegal ... just either stupid or ignorant.
ReplyDeleteThe bigger question here is why the police don't simply remove the cones whenever they see them, not just from here but from anywhere people try to reserve their own parking spot. The HA can apply for a motorcycle parking zone if they want one. Doesn't mean they'll get one, but they can follow the usual process whatever it is.
actually people do this stuff with cones all over the city. most of them don't have the balls to back it up with bullets, they'll just fuck up your car after you're gone.
ReplyDelete"Never rub another man's rhubarb!"
ReplyDeleteLooks to me like the H.A. gave the civilian every opportunity to move his car but the Yuppie A-Hole showed extreme disrespect to the one group that you do not ever show disrespect to if you plan to hang around this World a while longer. He received a belly full of learning, H.A.-style. Sounds to me like he had it coming.
ReplyDelete"most likely riding motorcycles"
ReplyDeletenot at the time of the incident, and not constantly or perpetually, and maybe not even some of the time, and maybe not at all. don't shoot me, but that's just silly and sloppy writing.
Sorry he got shot, but this idiot must have either been from out of town... like perhaps Saturn where they don't get basic cable... or completely out of his g*damn mind.
ReplyDeletethe HA just installed those fancy surveillance cameras, I bet they got it all on tape (not that they'd share)
ReplyDeleteIts their block dont mess with them
ReplyDeleteLot of internet tough talk in these here comments. That'll learn em, right boys?
ReplyDeleteBoo to the Hell's Angels. Any group like that has no place in a first world society. By rights they should've faded into obscurity after the Rolling Stones Altamont disaster.
I worked on east 5th and wandered down there for a place called Mama's fried chicken... that block seemed the safest of all blocks in NYC :') wonder why !
DeleteWhat a sad scenario, bunch of over the hill, decrepit motorbike tough-guys clinging to some fading, nearly-irrelevant identity, while holed up like rats in an otherwise ultra-liberal, multi-cultured largely white-collar neighborhood. They could hardly be more out of place here, no wonder you never see them walking around.
ReplyDelete3rd St and that entire neighborhood was never blue collar, especially when the HA set up shop there. It may be that way now because of who's moved in. But the HA have always been there. 3rd St is there's whether you like it or not!! Blue collar neighborhood LMMFAO You obviously are new to it as well...

DeleteI can't believe the comments defending the Hell's Angels. They are not above the law. They have no right to define their own private parking spaces at will, and it goes without saying that they have no right to shoot anyone over a parking space.
ReplyDelete- East Villager
Answer this why have the police never and I mean never after 40 years said about the cones?
DeleteAnswer the question.
Yes crime and scary people like the HA's still exist in New York regardless of how many fancy restaurants, chain stores and how ridiculously high your rent may be. I am not blaming these guys but what were they thinking picking a fight with anyone coming out of the club house?
ReplyDeleteAll those defending the Hells Angels because they're a big bad motorcycle club and the victim should have known better really need to give their head a shake. Just because you live in fear of them or show some misguided street respect doesn't mean that average citizens (that have EVERY RIGHT to park in the street) should too.
ReplyDeleteIll continue to give them said street respect since id rather not get shot.
Delete"Any group like that has no place in a first world society ..." Good god. How do you think we got this first world society, anyway, tralalaing around the globe like the fucking Smurfs? Your first world society is courtesy of men like the Hell's Angels, except we dress them up in uni-forms and brainwash them into thinking that whoever they're killing today deserved it because they're [evil/terrorists] all the while depriving them of their resources and ... get the picture?
ReplyDeleteThe Hell's Angels are a gang. Guess who's got a bigger gang? With more cool toys and better killy things?
if EV Grieve is running a contest to see which posting gets the most comments: did we win anything yet? i was thinking, like maybe a free parking spot? or maybe the Angels should just get grandfathered in.
ReplyDeleteHere's a short HA history lesson for outsiders. The former president of the Hells Angels (Sandy Alexander), bought the building and started the first NYC chapter of the club in 1969. The building is technically listed on the books as a church, The Church of Angels, so since they're a church you cannot park out front. The building was very run down when the club took possession of the property, many members renovated themselves and before they had an in house gathering space, CBGBs was used as a hang out spot for the club. CBs owner Hilly Kristal lived next door to the club on 3rd street. Respect the club and their boundaries and the club will leave you alone.
ReplyDeleteLived around the corner from the HA for about 30 years. They usually seemed like decent neighbors, because they also knew that they didn't want to bring attention to their drug selling building. Only once do I remember them really going off was back in 1992 or 3 when some idiot staggered out of the Edge (RIP) and loudly proclaimed they were gonna piss on the HA bikes. He got thrown through a window.
ReplyDeleteBut in the past couple of years, they've been acting like real douchebags. Trying to be more "terrifying." Like threatening me when I walk my dog because "it better not shit on OUR sidewalk."
Should this drunk guy trued to start a fight with them when asked to get away form their cones? Probably not. But that show of gunplay just means they're no better than any thug wannabes. Get rid of em.
Their first clue shoud have been the giant sign that says HELLS ANGELS. Apparently everyone missed the part in the story that saiid they were driving. Mercedes Benz. That tells you everything you need to know about their entitled mentality. How dod they know this wasn't a reserved spot for law enforcement or emergency services? They are lucky they got away in one piece.
ReplyDeleteI think the guy who was shot was wearing a santa costume. So I don't care!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 4:01 : A church, you say? Well, perhaps so. But if that is a no-parking zone of any kind then it should have official no parking signs in front of it and violators should be ticketed or towed by legal authorities. At the HA, there's just some hokey homemade sign on the facade, plus a bunch of cones. For easy reference see https://goo.gl/maps/VxaUVFXhTDv.
ReplyDeleteHere, for contrast, is an actual church right nearby, complete with actual, legal no-parking signs in front: https://goo.gl/maps/sqEpmDmtemz (not that I agree with that, but there it is).
That unofficial sign, the cones, the implicit threat of violence--now proven by real violence--represent a seizure of public property by threat of force.
You and I wouldn't get away with it and shouldn't get away with it, and neither should they, no matter how picturesque some might find the violent old coots. It's not cute, it doesn't keep the EV "real." It's just theft.
4:01,
ReplyDelete"The former president of the Hells Angels (Sandy Alexander), bought the building "
Well, that's one way to describe how they acquired the building. Not the most accurate way, but one way.
They threatened the former owner and made him sign over the deed through the threat of violence.
I love all the shit talkers on this are anonymous.... I grew up down there and I ain't moving the fucking cones... there is no respect for the old LES
ReplyDeleteits there block and thats it
ReplyDeleteI think you mean "their little bikes". Also if he was drunk why are he and his friends driving around looking for parking. The HA always have orange cones in front of their HQ. The police do not ticket them and if what they were doing was illegal by having the cones there they would.
ReplyDeleteI am not blaming the victim but it's pretty darn presumptuous and entitled to start moving cones so you can park your Mercedes there.
Too bad the yuppie douche bag got shot, but once he made physical contact with the Angel prospect, he brought it upon himself.
ReplyDeleteMore reality checks might make "entitled" monied shit birds think twice before invading our community, or at least behave during the short time they, as monied transients, are among us....
Well if you read the whole article , one young man got out and argued , then 3 more got out of the car and started fighting with the one person , so it was four young tough guys at 1:30 in the morning . And maybe one of the 4 guys pulled the gun . And it was taken away from him . If you read the New York Post that was the way it happened.
ReplyDeleteThe HA used to tar and feather folks who crossed them. Sounds like this idiot got off fairly lucky.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteHells Angels as "entitled white men" - now there's a great PhD dissertation topic if ever I've heard one
DECEMBER 12, 2016 AT 11:08 AM Yuppie ahole? How did you glean that from the post? Defending a gang who take public parking spots as their own then shoot someone who wants to use a spot he's entitled to = so vile.
ReplyDeleteHad to do a job directly opposite a couple of months back, told my driver to get in close but not to touch the bikes but I did move the cones. HA bloke came out and told me not to move the cones, I said fine, apologized but explained I wasn't parking down the block and shifting an apartments worth of stuff up it. We came to a consensus, he moved the bikes, we agreed to let him know when we were done, we did that, helped him move the bikes and cones back, all was well. I have the feeling that there was a bit more to it than that, they don't s**t on their own patch.
ReplyDelete11:28 has the right question. It looks like this may change.
ReplyDelete"The Hells Angels motorcycle gang used a traffic cone to mark off a parking spot in front of its downtown Manhattan headquarters Monday ... Two cops jumped out of their patrol car ... The officers tossed the cone inside their police cruiser."
http://nypost.com/2016/12/12/hells-angels-members-are-literally-crying-over-parking-spot/
http://nypost.com/2016/12/12/hells-angels-refusing-to-help-cops-with-shooting-investigation/
I think everyone in the neighborhood should protest this bad behavior by moving the cones a half inch left or right every time they walk down 3rd st.
ReplyDeleteOoooh big hard men shooting young men over traffic cones.
ReplyDeleteMILLENNIALS... Sheesh!
