Report: SantaConners 'plunder' One and One, causing $5,000 in damages, owner says

We heard about this incident taking place Saturday afternoon during the height of SantaCon at Nexus Lounge, the downstairs space at One and One on First Avenue and First Street.

The Daily News has more here. To their report:

One and One pub owner Paul O’Sullivan says unruly Santas stormed into the unopened lower-level lounge area beneath his corner watering-hole, smashing, drinking and stealing everything they could find shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

“(The Santas) managed to storm in, rob all the booze, smash up all the glassware and steal all the Christmas decorations,” says O’Sullivan...

O’Sullivan estimated that the Santas did $5,000 in damage.

The NYPD confirmed to the Daily News that cops responded to the bar (we saw three cruisers), but no charges were filed.

  1. Um, I paid $10 to the charity so I'm certainly entitled to take some liberties, no? Oh, and I may have been drunk. 2pm? Yep, I was drunk.

  4. I was in a pizza place and a bubble tea shop on Saturday afternoon and drunk Santa Con participants were harassing the employees at both establishments because they either a) wanted to use the bathroom or b) hang out inside for awhile without buying anything to get out of the cold. I felt bad because you could see the employees in both places were overwhelmed.

  7. Outrageous. This is why I detest Santa con. There is this complete lack of respect, civility, and decorum during this event from a majority of the participants. There has to be a way to ban it next year. Not only is this activity criminal, it could also be violent. What is with these animals? That's what they are: animals. I am sure their parents are proud of them now. What a bag of deplorables.

  8. Why isn't this considered "wilding"? We know. SantaCon is the epitome of white privilege. If it weren't so white, it would be shut down.

  10. A set up for a perfect crime, come in a costume which like look nearly identical to thousand like it, wear a big fake white beard, eyebrows, a wig and cap, now let's see the victims pick you out of a line up.

  12. $5,000 in damage (activity caught on video!) - yet NO ARRESTS, NO CHARGES? Seriously? What more evidence does anyone need that the NYPD is deliberately looking the other way?

Regarding that video image: one match dropped in there & those people would have gone up in flames, just like in CA. Is that what it's going to take for NYC to ban this shitshow?

And then the "organizer" - HI, JIM GLASER! - would say he had no idea this could ever happen & it has nothing to do with him. It'll be weasel behavior all the way, b/c that's all you can expect of weasels.

BTW, I'd like to see that listing of "charities" that benefited and in what amounts.

  13. Trump himself said we need law and order. Why are his own supporters defying this call for law and order? It makes zero sense.

  14. The police as well as the pols are warned off criticising the event. It's monetized NYC. Don't step on the profits. NO ARRESTS.. WHAT A JOKE!

  15. Next year, instead of "Santacon is Cancelled" signs, put ones up that direct them to the Hells Angels hangout. Say "knock for free booze". Done.

  16. @1:15pm: I like your idea. Tell them to DEMAND free booze.

@cmarrtyy: Yes, and I'd like an investigation as to WHY everyone who's *supposed* to be in charge in NYC government is "warned off" - how is SantaCon different than the Hell's Angels?

If SantaCon can effectively threaten elected officials AND the NYPD into rolling over & playing dead, then IMO, the Attorney General should be investigating the shell game that is SantaCon on RICO statutes.

  19. Cop to bar owner: "Can you describe the perpetrator?"

Bar owner: "yeah - he was dressed like Santa Claus."

Cop: "We'll get right on it."

  20. No arrests! Do we even have to guess at what the reaction would have been to a group of black and hispanic "Santas" doing the same thing?

  21. Good. This place deserved it. You want to cater to these people, this is what you get. 'Cops ain't doin' sh it cuz they're paid off by SantaCon and want to do as little work as possible (see my neighborhood where I RARELY see a cop car.)

If I had a bar I would ban even a woman or two wearing Santa caps. GTFOH with that SantaCon sh it.

  22. Clearly, these were not SantaCon participants. They were robbers who took advantage of SantaCon to do what they did, much like people take advantage of Halloween to rob.

  23. I'd also like to thank the NYPD for there quick response. I know no one got arrested but it was the right judgement call given the day of events. The officers did a tremendous job and we should be all thankful that no one was seriously injured. These guys have a tough job and should be fully supported. BTW if you want to point fingers then point it at the right people.

  24. Paul I don't understand your position:They get a pass from trashing your place because it's a special day?

  25. VERY odd position the owner of this place is strenuously making public efforts to take. Santacon is dirty, dirty business.
