A truck with one of those crane things on it just pulled up to 505 E. 12th St. and lifted a bunch of sheetrock up to a top-floor window. The street is not blocked off, and the sidewalk isn't blocked off. People are actually walking under the sheetrock as it dangles outside the window. Don't they need to block off the street and sidewalk? I am filing a complaint with 311.
Shortly after this a construction worker with a flag arrived on the sidewalk, and they put up a barrier to prevent people from walking underneath the sheetrock delivery.
194-196 Avenue A and 503-505 E. 12th St. changed hands in late 2015.
Wow. This could have been bad if the sheetrock had fallen at the :31 mark when that woman is walking right underneath.
ReplyDeleteWoman walking = oblivious. I avoid walking under construction sites even when the sidewalk is enclosed.

ReplyDeleteIt's crazy what this landlord gets away with. They don't care about their neighbors one bit. They have an in with the city somewhere because no matter how much we complain about the noise from Doublewide, nothing happens. The cops come, say they don't hear anything and leave.
ReplyDeleteThe LANDLORD and CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, along with the SHEETROCK DELIVERY CO. all ought to know about this. Cause, ding dong, if they drop the sheetrock on someone's head, it will be their fault, their grievous fault.

The delivery guys knew they were breaking the rules. You should have seen how fast they did this. But that's business as usual in the East Village these days. They all do whatever they want because they know they are going to get away with it.
ReplyDeleteWow. I realize this place prides itself on whining, but really. Do pedestrians need to be warned not to walk under a load of sheetrock 40 feet in the air, dangling from a crane right in front of them? Take your face out of your cell phone when walking. There is lots to see.
ReplyDeleteTo the poster at 8:43 a.m.: There is a reason why we have rules and regulations in the city regarding construction, and it is for our safety. Anyone could me momentarily distracted--and it doesn't have to be by a phone--and not notice what is up ahead. There are also children that walk up and down this block to and from school who might not be as aware, and there are also people who are visually impaired.

ReplyDeleteJill, if it makes you feel any better, you are missing out on a lot of noise from Doublewide. The bar continues to do whatever it wants and our complaints to the police do nothing.
