Dog day afternoon: Opening party for LoveThyBeast on 5th Street

As previously noted, a pet-accessory boutique called LoveThyBeast is coming to 300 E. Fifth St. just east of Second Avenue... there's an opening party tomorrow (Saturday) from 3-7 p.m. ... (you've been warned in case there is free wine)...

The shop is the creation of Tiziana Agnello, a former prop stylist, who started selling her homemade creations online and in several pop-up locations back in 2012.

  1. The EV has literally gone to the dogs (purebreds to be exact). If you can afford to pay well over $3000 for a 1 bedroom here you can afford a fancy dog and most likely will want to pamper your pup the way you pamper yourself. Gone are the mutts and rescue dogs of the past welcome the age of dog walkers and multicolored plastic poop bags which somehow never make their way into a trash bin but instead brighten up our sidewalks each and every day. Gone also is respect for "no dogs allowed" playgrounds such as Sauer Park on 12th street. You pay high rent, you frequent Double Wide, you add beauty to the block while walking your "descendant of champions" and each day you let it pee in the flower planted tree wells because that is your right. You also deserve to takeover a playground with all the space you and your pouch need to run and frolic.

  2. "No Dogs Allowed" - speaking of which, it seems like they removed that sign from the fence around the central lawn in TSP. I guess if we couldn't keep the crusties from pissing all over the grass, there's no sense in keeping out Madison and Blake's fur babies too.

The people in my building who pay $3000/month can't be bothered to lift a trash can lid; literally will just pile bags on top of a mostly empty can, sitting next to another empty can. Not surprisingly, they let their dogs wee wherever they please.

  3. Heyyyy I rescued a mutt and it seems like a lot of people are so I don't agree! I don't like the spoiled little entitled douche types either. My dg is trained to go by the curb and I pick up his poop AND other poop if it's nearby. Sometimes you gotta run em quick to get out some energy in a park, but I don't sit there all day and think it's my private yard. And he's already gone to the bathroom by then. So don't fear the purebred douchery, Social Tees is doing their thing and there are a lot of good dog owners! I hate the rude or dirty owners. They are animals!

  4. @9:41 - the trash on top of the garbage can is one of those things that really riles me. People too prissy to touch the lid, and expect their neighbors to do it for them. It's a pervasive attitude.

  5. EV Grieve commenters never let me down! I'll take pure bred dog shit over being mugged every day of the week. How about "this is great- a local having enough online success to have a brick and mortar in our neighborhood." It probably won't last with so much of the old guard choosing bitterness over community.

Wow so much hate! I live on east 5th Street and I'm happy to have such a lovely addition to the block. I wish all small businesses in the neighborhood good luck. I don't have a dog, but a cat, and am happy to buy a treat every one in a while to support small businesses. This shop is a million times better than an another obnoxious bar.

Don't blame this business owner for the bad practices of various dog owners.
