Today in rooftop lap pool deliveries on 11th Street

A crane crew was out on 11th Street between Avenue B and Avenue C... delivering what appeared to be a lap pool for the rooftop of the condoplex at 643 E. 11th St. ...

Here's how Streeteasy describes the penthouse here:

This sleek and sexy 2325sf penthouse duplex is arguably the most dramatic and glamorous property the East Village has ever seen. Its one-of-a-kind layout features soaring 18 foot ceilings, private keyed elevator access, three separate terraces as well as two juliette balconies, with the outdoor space alone totalling 550sf.

And!

There are even an additional 450 square feet of FAR should one choose to add a third tier to the privately owned roof and create a triplex. Quite simply, this stunning, jawdropping showpad needs to be seen to be believed.

Looks like the showpad has another amenity.

Thanks to Peter Brownscombe for the photos!

  1. Whoa - my old block. Let's just say this would've been 'just a bit' over the top back then. Walked through a few months ago to great culture shock. Time marches on.

  2. Jeez, I remember when this block was ruled by a drug gang that frequently fought with the drug gang that ran 11th between A-B, and they could be vicious to the extreme. In the early 1980s, 542 East 11th Street was an abandoned building being squatted by some white kids who let some of the dealers on the block move in; as a warning, as retribution, who knows what, the 11 B-C crew fired 542 three times in one day, and Engine 5 had to come out and put out the not-inconsiderable flames shooting out of the building. Right after that the whole place emptied out, and a very prescient developer bought it, rehabbed it, and turned it into the "East Ho" (no I am not kidding, it said so right on the awning), the first co-op I knew of in the neighborhood. Different times...

  3. Well, in 1990 some colleagues of mine had a run down brownstone on the north side of TSP that was missing most of its drywall, but had an above ground pool in the back.

  5. I'll be honest: I'd love to have a rooftop lap pool.
