McDonald's loses its golden arches on 1st Avenue
In a dramatic development at McDonald's on First Avenue, a crane crew was on the scene here between Sixth Street and Seventh Street for a signage switcheroo this morning...
As you can see, workers replaced the McDonald's with the stylized yellow "M" of the Golden Arches to...
... a sign that a typographist standing nearby believes is now entirely Helvetica Neue Black...
There was no immediate response from anyone else in the area.

I usually make a point to *not* look at McDonald's, but I have to say I like the old signage better. Why do modern commercial signs have to be flat illuminated plastic? So boring.
ReplyDeleteWhy do this? There's no need and the old sign was better anyway. And McDonald's, if you're reading this, your massive tractor trailer trucks are turning left to go west on 7th Street over to make a difficult turn at Cooper Union after they leave you on 1st Ave. That's illegal. They're way too big for these little residential streets. Knock it off before you kill someone. They need to use official truck routes.
ReplyDeleteI thought this article was about the closing of a location of this anti-union, anti-living wage company which promotes the unhealthiest food in the country - damn it!
ReplyDeleteNO...PLEASE DONT TKAE OUR OWN LOCAL ORIGINAL MCDONALD'S AWAY FROM US.............

ReplyDeleteThink you are forgetting Taco Bell.
Even the arches aren't safe from gentrification: anything to be trendy and the next it thing. Next would be McDonald's selling fountain La Croix and the staff's uniforms will include hot pants.
ReplyDeleteAt least it isn't Comic Sans.
Im sure changing the signange makes the food taste better and is healthier. I hope everyone knows im joking. Curious though why arent there many burger kings or white castles in the city? Or cinnabons.

At least Taco Bell has vegan options.
I wonder how much whoever came up with that idea made - or maybe got a bonus.
ReplyDeleteThey need to renovate this location especially the bathrooms. It's the ugliest Mcdees around.
ReplyDelete2 double cheese for 3.50 and dollar soda any size can't be beat
ReplyDeleteHey 6:04pm, 4:04pm back here.
ReplyDeleteI didn't forget Taco Bell, I just didn't mention them because you know, the entry is about McDonald's.
