Meanwhile, at the Bowery Mural Wall...
Seems to be a daily ritual here on East Houston at the Bowery... someone tags the wall, then Goldman Properties has someone paint over it... repeat!
David Choe's mural here was painted over in June as the controversy over his past comments about an alleged sexual assault resurfaced... his work was scheduled to be up through October.
There has't been any word of a replacement.

The talentless just pissing on the walls like any stray.
ReplyDeleteChoe's mural was taken down, so give it a rest.
ReplyDeleteGoldman Sachs isn't helping by having a blank wall.
Just let anyone tag so long as it isn't name callouts like this, insults, threats, messages, advertising, websites etc.
I hope people see this for what it is, an example of the sort of art we'll have when every aspect of an artist's life is put under a microscope and judged, instead of the artwork itself.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe women are just tired of being held hostage to so many misogynists, creeps, rapists, stalkers and sexual harassers? After all, the mistreatment of women by men has only been going on since the beginning of time, and is still the case in 90+% of the world. Maybe if a male artist would learn the history of one the greatest crimes on earth, the tens or hundreds of thousands of years that men have subjugated women to their every wish, robbed them of their property, their rights and their lives, maybe if a man would make art about THAT instead of making art just to get rich, famous and/or laid, and maybe if men would stop treating women like objects, property, animals or worse, then maybe then we could "give it ia rest." But until then don't count on people "giving it a rest," not until all of that happens.,
ReplyDeleteHey Giovanni - 8:15pm back here. I didn't say the person or people scrawling Fuck Choe on a wall should give it a rest speaking out against everything you listed, I said he/she/they should give it a rest writing this guy's name on a wall when Goldman removed the guy's mural because he's a hurtful creep, so give it a rest putting words in my mouth I never said.
ReplyDeleteWriting Fuck Choe on this wall is childish and accomplishes nothing and as much as I don't like Goldman for oh so many reasons, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and say they were kept in the dark about this scumbag.
Is there a difference between the graffiti and the murals? Yeah? Who sez so?
ReplyDeleteGiovanni for President of the Universe for all time!
