S'MAC is open in new home on 1st Avenue and 12th Street

[The former S'MAC space at 345 E. 12th St.]

As noted earlier last week, S'MAC (aka Sarita's Mac & Cheese) was moving from their 11-year-old home on 12th Street several storefronts away to the northwest corner at First Avenue...

That move is now complete. (Friday was the last day for S'MAC at 345 E. 12th St.)

Several readers noted that S'MAC was open for awhile in the new space on Monday...

They are expected to be back open after the July Fourth holiday...

The corner space was previously East 12th Osteria, the Italian restaurant that left at the beginning of the year.

  1. would enjoy being a fly on the wall of that conversation: 'let's move our successful business to a spot where our overhead will be through-the-roof'---no wonder 90+%of restaurants fail in NYC🙃

S'MAC's vegan mac 'n cheese is very good, and doesn't contain dairy: in truth, cow's milk doesn't love too many humans.

I admit I haven't had their dairy version, but I'll just say their vegan version is pretty damn good.

  5. Looking forward to eating here. I love orange but they could do with a bit less of it. It doesn't stand out when it is everywhere.

In other news heard here that Eastern Bloc may be closing in September so Alan Cumming can make it a Cabaret Bar. Is there any reason why he can't make it at the space where Odessa used to be? Black Rose used it on Tuesday nights for performances so it's doable. Really hope he puts it in another space :/
