The first two photos are from Wednesday evening at the Eighth Street/Avenue B entrance to Tompkins Square Park...
... and today...
Have you seen anyone work on the month-old sinkhole this past week? Doesn't seems as if there was much, if any, progress this week.
Previously
No work done by design to keep as many people out of the park as possible.
ReplyDeleteI agree, rats are disgusting. But their cavernous, underground nests, just a few feet from where the children play, serve a vital role in the park's delicate eco system: all-natural sinkhole filler.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't until all those twitching, squeaking, blech little bodies all go on Summer vacation, packed up with food, toys, and beach gear, do we understand and acknowledge their contribution to our beautiful parks. Without these filthy, rats nests packed full of little plague peddelers, our parks would be nothing but giant craters. Our parks would be Florida.
IMO, that sinkhole, and the pace (or lack thereof) of repair truly embodies the entire DeBlasio approach to managing/governing NYC.
ReplyDeleteWhat a mess. What the heck is taking so long?! This entrance/exit is used by a lot of people and having it blocked is extremely disruptive.
ReplyDelete12:26 is right. I assume this is an attempt to ward off the crusties or even the native homeless that De Faustio was harping about.
ReplyDeleteExcuse me! Hello? Anyone? I got shitfaced last night and fell asleep in the sinkhole. Can someone please get me out? I'm a girl. It's not my fault!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure what you are trying to show, EVG, but the two photos of the dug up pipe - they are the same photo. Of course there will be no progress if you put up the same photo, twice, and then claim each is from a different time.
ReplyDeleteUgh. I accidentally posted the Sunday photo twice. My apologies. Thanks for letting me know. The correct shot for Wednesday is now on the post.
ReplyDeleteThat's not a sinkhole, that's the new entrance to the L train.
ReplyDeleteEveryone: Report this to 311; I'm going to hit them up repeatedly, because this is f*cked.
ReplyDeleteI hope others also report this; there's a simple app for your phone—called, appropriately, NYC 311—and you don't have to speak to anyone. Do it!
"No work done by design to keep as many people out of the park as possible."
ReplyDelete"This entrance/exit is used by a lot of people and having it blocked is extremely disruptive."
What use is there for trolls when you people troll yourselves continuously? There are two other entrances/exits -- what? some 25 feet away in either direction north and south -- go around. Are you kidding me? If this represents an inconvenience to you in anyway please just stay home.
It's a lot further than 25 feet to 7th or 9th St, especially in an emergency.
ReplyDelete@3:10pm: You say it's an "inconvenience." It appears you are unfamiliar with the concepts of being elderly, disabled, or recovering from an injury (as in needing to use crutches) - all of which make "25 feet away" a far distance indeed.
ReplyDeleteAlso, aren't they supposed to be completing this work in a timely fashion? Light a fire under their asses, I say!
ReplyDelete"It's a lot further than 25 feet to 7th or 9th St, especially in an emergency."
ReplyDeleteLet's say it's 25 feet, maybe it's 30, 35 whatever. Absolute distance does not change according to relative circumstances. Do you understand? And since you're so concerned with theoretical emergencies, why not complain about the fact that there's a fence and only 3 entrances on Avenue A; there ought to be no fence and 5 paved entrances -- you know, just in case someone's on crutches and absolutely must traverse the park for no damn good reason. Man, life is hard for you people.
