Resobox, a Japanese cultural center, opening in the former Edge space on 3rd Street



Back on Aug. 2, an EVG reader spotted workers putting up some decorations on the marquee at 95 E. Third St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue... the former home of the Edge.

For now, the signage looks like this...



The space will be home to the third NYC location of Resobox, a gallery, workshop (with a variety of classes) and café that celebrates Japanese culture. The first location opened in Long Island City in 2012. (The other location is in Chelsea.) You can read more about Resobox and its founders here.

For now, the Third Street location, until it's fully operational, is offering flower-arranging classes on Saturdays...

    Is it me or is there a calculated plan to make the East Village Asian?

    Almost ALL the new food places and other places are Asian.

    Some diversity please and what is this place a chain cultural center or something? Three locations?

    Yes it is you, and people like you are the reason Trump is President. Or maybe you’re a closet Trumpster who wants to Make America White Again, and around your neighbors you espouse trite liberal dogma to overcompensate for your racism. You dump on Asians because you, like other racist bullies, don’t expect any repercussions.

    And who or what are you really asking for when you write “Some diversity please”? In your grievance are you pushing for greater resistance to discourage Asian businesses from the East Village? Do you really want diversity or are you really appealing for divisiveness?

    Now let’s replace the word “Asian” with other racial, religious, etc. groups:

    Is it me or is there a calculated plan to make the East Village Jewish?
    Almost ALL the new food places and others places are Jewish.

    Is it me or is there a calculated plan to make the East Village Mexican?
    Almost ALL the new food places and others places are Mexican.

    Is it me or is there a calculated plan to make the East Village Black?
    Almost ALL the new food places and others places are Black.

    Is it me or is there a calculated plan to make the East Village Gay?
    Almost ALL the new food places and others places are Gay.

    And if you don’t think you’re being a racist, why post Anonymous?
