How 'bout the organizers and band people clean the park after the show? Since when can a producer of an event solicit for donations in a public park? Isn't that using a public space for profit and if so does ANY of that money go to the neighborhood community? I know for a fact NONE of the organizers live in or around the East Village.
ReplyDeleteThese people apparently have tried and miserably failed to raise $5000 for the "costs and expenses" of the event when the permits cost only $70 ($45 noise + $25 special event and yes, I know there are other expenses.) Why are they asking for such a high amount let alone asking for money at all when the guy who throws punk shows in the park all the time never asks for donations for his shows?
I never knew you could turn a park into an outdoor nightclub complete with "donation" stations. And how do we know the money will really go to "charity" and "show expenses"? Don't they need to show the city where that charity money is going to?
This is blatant private profit in a public place.

ReplyDeleteIt seems like every weekend the last month there has been hardcore metal played in the park. I don't mind if there's a variety of genres of music being played but this "screamo" is getting really annoying. Not exactly enjoyable/relaxing Sunday vibes...

ReplyDelete@2:49 PM I agree, all this metal gives me a headache and I like metal as much as many. But to book other genres someone (not me) has to get and pay for the permits, arrange the sound and find bands that will play for free. Free is a lot easier with the heavy bands. A real salsa band would be great but add $1,500 to the budget.
