The Bean's 3rd Avenue location opens on Thursday
As the signage shows, the Bean is opening its new location at 31 Third Ave. at Stuyvesant Street on Thursday.
The storefront had been empty ever since St. Mark's Bookshop moved out in June 2014.
"We've always liked the old St. Mark's Bookstore spot and it's been empty for years, so when the opportunity presented itself for us to obtain it we were excited to make it happen," Ike Escava, owner of the Bean, told me via email in July.
This will make the coffee shop/cafe's fifth NYC location.

Thank the lord, another coffee stop. And doubly thank the savior that it's the Bean, now scrawny java junkies don't have to walk 2 blocks to the next one or across Astor to Starbucks or any donut cart on the corners. (Isn't there a bean on broadway and 12th st. or is it 13th and 4th ave?)
ReplyDeleteI am likewise grateful that retail diversity will soon be gone from the EV, unless you consider the coffee chain places diverse. Coffee is here to stay giving to it's addictive personality and caffeine. I guess this is better than smack and crack right?
ReplyDeleteIt was too small for a drugstore, I guess.
ReplyDeleteBetter The Bean than a Starbucks, though I agree that retail diversity is sorely lacking.
ReplyDeleteThis will all be for naught once Amazon perfects its latte drone.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is here to stay because of a clueless dysfunctional clientele who has forgotten how to brew a pot. Coffee shops have a tremendous mark up.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people do that, but then like a second cup later in AM away from home.
DeleteBut all you need to do is buy a thermos.
DeleteI dislike Starbucks as much as the next person, but at least their coffee is drinkable. The Bean's is not.
ReplyDeleteI find that sign on the brick wall really gross and out of place. It could have been made much smaller and still make a statement. It's completely unnecessary to create such a visual distraction.
ReplyDeletegreat coffee😎
ReplyDeleteThe Bean has some of the freshest Iced coffee around, and their Frozen Mona Lisa's are better than Starbucks Frappucinos, without the chemical aftertaste. The Bean attracts more regular local residents vs. the toursts that frequent Starbucks, so it's a friendlier atmosphere. They hire some nice kids who remember your drink and name. And their pastries and food is better than Starbucks too. That's a nice quirky space with lots of room for tables, so this should be a nice addition to the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteWhy not patronize third rail? Counter culture coffee is far superior to what is served at the bean and it's not a retail giant

This post is so full of win, I don't even know where to start.
