1st Avenue fruit vendors pack up for the season
[EVG file photo]
Last night was the last call this season for the fruit-vegetable vendors here on First Avenue and Sixth Street outside Village View ... EVG reader Rainer Turim shared these photos from last night (there was word of a small going-away party) ...
The vendors returned for the season here back in April...

Darn. I was gonna go today.
ReplyDeleteThey are the nicest guys, and have really good produce. See you next year, God willing!
ReplyDeleteKind of reminds me of the Mackinaw Peaches episode on Seinfeld.
ReplyDeleteArrg, I neglected to go one last time. They had the best bananas.
ReplyDeleteNice story to include, EVG! One of the best things about living in Manhattan is the fruit stands. And all the pretty flowers on display.* I am loyal to the guys on the NW corner of 14th & First Ave. I think they're out all night now! And well into the colder weather.
ReplyDelete(*Next poster's lecture on Colombian poison farms not necessary)
There is a chain of fruit/vegetable seller on second ave from 23rd to 34th and the competition between is fierce enough that I go there, save several dollars over these guys no matter how nice they are.
