ReplyDeleteIt looks like someone got the tool to remove that back wheel. I am really stunned that nobody stole the seats considering that it's adjustable and left out all day and night. I like the crumpled newspaper stuffed in the front fork.
That bike could probably still get some miles running on the cyclist's sense of self-satisfaction (line by Ed Begley Jr. on the simpsons)

ReplyDeleteWhen I am out zipping around on my 20lb bicycle, I am often tempted to pull up next to one of these Citibikers and ask them if they realize they are riding a bike that has been specifically designed to be heavy, slow and undesirable.

ReplyDelete11:36 yes, to be smug. Those contraptions (as well as a lot of the people that ride em) annoy me. (Since I am not a perfect angel, I get annoyed.) They take up a lot of public space, both while docked and while moving. Consider me an advocate, for bike ownership.
ReplyDelete@10.49, I use a CitiBike and have my own bike; you don't think I know the difference between the two? It's great that Citibikes are the way they are, they're tougher against vandalism this way & easier to balance for people who don't have a lot of experience. No need to be rude about it.
ReplyDelete@ JQ LLC, It's funny because your comment comes across as quite self-satisfied. Would you like cyclists to make such comments about vandalized cars & self-satisfied drivers? Why should anyone be snarky about vandalized anything? We're all neighbors.

ReplyDeleteThe real funny thing is that these shitibikes are supposed to be theft proof and now you got this, and it won't be the end of it either. Even funnier is that the NYPD for decades has never took bike theft seriously will have their hands full now because the big bank will certainly pressure them too, now that the bikes have been bequeathed the same fate as every other regular biker risking their merchandise parked outside during work or overnight now that fiends have got the tools to remove the parts.
Their bike racks have robbed parking and driving lanes and has made traffic more congested. In a way, this is fine karma.
I really don't care if people use them or not, I abide by the freedom of choice. Even if the majority of it's customers act like they own the road as they cut people off and run reds, it's like they just came off the peloton and try to mimic the competitiveness and I'm certain a lot of these riders used to be reckless selfish drivers.
As for wishing for those other offenses, of course not. That's people's personal property. This is from a bank that received a massive bailout 10 years ago, permeated the white house with cabinet positions and helped finance the hyper-development and exorbitant commercial and housing rent market. So it's good that their crappy bikes get dissembled overnight by petty thieves. At least that will keep those creeps occupied and away from regular bikes for a while.
Perhaps the wheels went south? Figuratively & literally.
ReplyDeleteThe parts wont fit on other bikes. The specs of each part were purposefully designed so a professional fully informed thief will avoid stripping the parts because on the resale market the parts are worthless.

ReplyDeleteProbably will sell it for scrap if they can't repurpose it. Although the hubs can be replaced. The tires and tubes can be used on other wheels, which I think are 700 x 28 or 26 x 2.15
