From the archives: Giuseppi Logan in Tompkins Square Park
This photo of Giuseppi Logan is from December 2013.
I have not seen (or heard) him play his saxophone in Tompkins Square Park in more than three years. (You can read more about the jazz artist in this feature at the Times.)
Back in the fall, I learned via Facebook that Logan, now 82, is living in a senior residence in Far Rockaway. Matt Lavelle, a jazz musician, has been to visit Logan ... he also bought Logan a new flute.

Thank you for posting this update about Giuseppe Logan. I wonder about him and his music each day as I pass those benches.
ReplyDeleteI miss hearing GL play Somewhere Over The Rainbow in the park. His absence is palpable.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas.
Great to hear he is ok. Years ago I hired him to play at a homeless Veterans shelter and they though he was Sonny Rollins...lol!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and what a good guy Matt LaVelle is. So many people want to do things like that, few do.
ReplyDeleteI miss him too..his music was lovely to hear through the park. Merry Christmas to all.

I hope he knows he's missed. Much love... Much love.
ReplyDeleteI remember how his son tried to reconnect with him and even got him a phone but he wouldn't answer it. That made me so sad for him. It's hard to grow up missing that connection with a parent no matter what the issue.
