Liquid moon
Goggla shared this photo from Tompkins Square Park... as the moon rose tonight, heat waves from a chimney made it look like it was made of liquid.
There is video too...

Supermoon 2morrow
ReplyDeleteThat’s an earthquake moon, which puts tidal stress on the earths crust, leading to more earthquakes. Combine that with the slowing rotation of the Earth and we are in for a wild ride. We are currently in year 4 of a 5 year cycle where the Earth’s rotation slows a few milliseconds per day. When this happens, the number of major (and minor) earthquakes generally doubles, which could help explain the 4.1 magnitude earthquake we had in Delaware yesterday, the biggest in that area in over 20 years. Los Angeles had over 130 tremblors last week alone, and the San Andreas fault is looking like it’s getting ready to explode. The Earth’s rotation has been slowing for the past 4 years, and big earthquakes typically occur in year 5 of the cycle, which we are entering in 2018. This might not be the best time to build (or live) in a tall building, or one that isn’t earthquake resistant. Every few hundred years New York has a major earthquake, so we are probably due, and a major fault runs right down 14th Street, which isn't good news for the L train renovations, or Trader Joe’s Wine store for that matter. If you thought 2017 was interesting, you’ll probably just love 2018.
ReplyDeleteThe moon looks like it has a scary face...almost the the mask that was used in Scream.

Thanks JQ, I’ll put that on my EV Earthquake Survival playlist.
ReplyDeleteFYI there are only 5 or 6 areas in the US with an elevated risk of having earthquakes right now. The West Coast is one of them, as is Oklahoma due to all the fracking, and the Carolinas all the way out to St Louis, Missouri, which has also had major quakes in the past. The other area with an elevated risk or earthquakes? New York City. Hold onto your bitcoins,
