An EVG reader said yesterday that a sign for the incoming Target had arrived on the southwest corner of 14th Street and Avenue A.
I guess I was expecting something like this...
But it's more like this for now... just a sign for workers...

In any event, as noted before, the Target small-format store will cover two levels here. Per the Target newsroom:
Merchandise includes men’s and women’s apparel and accessories, home, food (with grab-and-go selection spanning sandwiches, salads, beverages and more), health and beauty and electronics assortment.
Services offered: Target Mobile and Order Pickup.
The East Village Target has an expected July opening date.

ReplyDeleteThere used to be this great store on this block that sold everything from cheap socks, shoes, underwear, eating utensils etc. to crushed velvet furniture. It may even have been at the same location. Does anyone else remember this? I don't recall their name.

DeleteSeeing as how KMart is probably doomed, I hope this Target offers reasonable housewares. I've never been to a Target, so I have no idea what type of quality their products are. Anyone know? I formerly shopped at Surprise Surprise and they had absolutely everything for a good price. Never set foot in that place that's replaced them.

ReplyDeleteWalter, I agree. That was a great store on this site. Furnished much of my apartment, back in the day. The even had furniture at reasonable prices! I doubt we'll have anything like that again.
ReplyDelete@Walter, you are thinking of the late, much-lamented Bargain Bazaar, which was forced to close when they still had five years left on their lease because the landlord wanted to sell the building to whatever shadowy LLC is developing this mega-project. The store owner even went to court to try and stay, but the judge decided it was more important that the landlord profit than that he fulfill his legal obligations, so the place was forced to shutter. A real loss, there was nothing else around like it, and there never will be again. Still a bunch of stores like this up in Harlem, but they're losing ground against the forces of gentrification, too...but then, what isn't?

ReplyDeleteI shop the basic essentials for home via Target's website because it's cheaper than the rest so I hope they will allow pick up for this location!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. FYI, for those who did not realize, Target NYC prices, as seen at the West 34th street store, are not suburban Target prices, so do not get too excited just yet!
