Dan & John's Wings looking to expand on 1st Avenue
[Photo from Dec. 23]
The owners of Dan & John's Wings, which opened two-plus years ago in the small storefront at 135 First Ave., are looking to expand into the larger (and currently vacant) space next door.
The owners of the Buffalo-style wings operation are on the CB3-SLA docket tonight for a new liquor license. The proposed hours, according to the paperwork (PDF here) posted on the CB3 website, are noon to midnight daily. The expanded space would allow for 10 tables seating 35 patrons and 1 6-seat bar. (The current Dan & John's just has a few stools as well as a beer-wine license.)
The space has been empty since last March when Rustico, the cafe that specialized in crêpes and Italian coffee here between St. Mark's Place and Ninth Street, closed.
Dan & John's opened their first restaurant here in October 2015. They are also regulars on the Smorgasburg circuit and last year started selling their wings at Citi Field for Mets game.
CB3's SLA committee will hear this and other applications tonight at 6:30 at the Public Hotel, 17th Floor, Sophia Room, 215 Chrystie St. between Houston and Stanton.

They need a full liquor license to sell chicken wings? Their questionnaire also they'll also have 4 televisions. Wonder how long before this becomes a full-on sports bar?
ReplyDeleteThe chicken wings at this place are great. The best I've ever had. And the owners and staff are good people. Kudos to them for their success and expansion. Chicken wings are best when consumed with cold beer and a sports match on the TV, so its a welcome move.
ReplyDeleteTo the haters: move to the Upper West Side with the rest of the kvetchy old people who just shuffle around town complaining all day.
Don't know anything about them but they sound like a couple of regular dudes. I like the name of their business, could not be any more down-to-earth or straightforward. Total lack of pretense and artifice. Not very NYC 2018, but hey that's exactly why I like it.
ReplyDelete2nd Ave Dave---- Beer and chicken wings? Great. A full liquor license so that they can become a sports bar if they can't make rent? No thanks. Bad for all in a neighborhood full of bars and the noise that comes with them.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100%. The sidewalks on First and St. Marks are already overflowing with people and noise in the summer with the taco bar around the corner, etc. We don't need another potential sports bar
DeleteDan and John: Ignore the Gripers and good luck. Tough loss yesterday, at least you're more successful than the Bills.
ReplyDeletewings need more sauce -- hot sauce, dipping sauce etc. too dry. and no i don't want to PAY for extra sauce. more sauce please thanks
ReplyDeleteReal buffalo wings (in Buffalo) are actually quite dry! And delicious.
