Hold the phone

EVG reader Jen Pace shared this photo from earlier today on First Avenue between 13th Street and 14th Street... making way for the next LinkNYC kiosk...

  1. can't we have both?! love those beautiful phone booths. landlines stay up when cell service goes down; they make great street offices when you need some shelter from the weather to make a call. plus it's way more satisfying to slam down a receiver....:) bring 'em back!!!!!!!!

  2. I'd be very curious to see a site map of all the installed and planned kiosks in Manhattan, to see if all neighborhoods are sharing equally in this "bounty", or if it's only neighborhoods like Harlem and the EV, with their larger transient populations, that are so blessed.

  3. LinkNYC Fact #37

In the event of a black out, LinkNYC kiosks retain power for an entire 24 hours before shutting down.

  4. They're a blight on the landscape - we don't need more visual noise and ads being fed to us
