Today in Urban Etiquette Signs

Steven spotted this note up on the Community Events board outside the 6 & B Community Garden on Sixth Street and Avenue B...

Snow melts.

Shit does not.

Please clean up after your dog.

Thank you,
EV Residents

  1. I’ve noticed that more people are letting their dogs crap on the walking bridges over to East River Park and not cleaning it up, especially after each snowstorm. Then someone steps in the crap an smears it all over the walkway, making it almost impossible to get by without walking in dog doo. Something tells me these signs don't work.

  2. So true! Saw a bunch of logs on our walk this morning. If you are a dog owner, a) you never leave the house without baggies and 2) anytime your dog drops a turd, you bag it up and trash it. Jesus Christ, this should be as reflexive as wiping your own butt when you are done on the toilet. I am saying this as a dog owner. Can't even imagine the kind of conscience that would enable a person to just blithely walk away and carry on with their life. A doggie poop is not the end of the world, but the people who do this are about as low as it gets.

  4. There's been a lot of dog crap in Tompkins lately. No park enforcement.

  6. I saw a guy doing doody in between cars and also at the F train/Houston St stop - right there on the platform.
    Yuck.
Poor dogs, always getting the blame.

  7. Actually, dog poop kind of falls apart in the wet, and then dries out in the dry, and then dry poop falls apart and gets trampled around all over the place. Yeah, you're probably standing in dog poop powder right now.

  8. With all the everyone carrying a cameraphone these days, we should be able to take pictures of the guilty party and post them online and shitshame them into picking up after their dogs.

  9. i have examined the evidence and conclude that 11 St. has at least one serial doodooer, usually on the south side between 2 Ave & Ave A.
