[Updated] Report: Handsome Dick Manitoba arrested for domestic violence

According to the Confidential column at the Daily News, Handsome Dick Manitoba was arrested last week for allegedly assaulting Zoe Hansen, his former domestic partner.

The two are owners of Manitoba's on Avenue B and reportedly still share access to the same East Village apartment.

Per the News:

According to the police report, obtained by the Daily News, Hansen was “crying, with tears streaming down her face and her body shaking,” when officers arrived. She told the cops, “He bit me. He bit my nose. He grabbed my neck and applied pressure.”

An NYPD spokesperson confirmed to Billboard that Manitoba was arrested at 10:15 a.m. last Friday.

An NYPD rep told Variety that he was charged with third-degree assault, criminal mischief and attempted strangulation. Manitoba, who was the lead singer of the Dictators, is due back in Manhattan Criminal Court on March 26.

According to Page Six, Hansen allegedly smashed a window at Manitoba's on Sunday night. Manitoba's lawyer Frank Rothman told Richard Johnson at Page Six that Hansen came to the bar for money. When the bartender refused, "she picked up a bottle of wine and smashed the window," Rothman said.

Manitoba, who denies the previous assault claims, filed a police report at the 9th Precinct yesterday, Page Six reported.

  2. He bit her nose? Looks like Handsome Dick hasn't heard about the #MeToo movement.

  3. Oh that's a bummer. I remember when he first met her, he was head over heels, could not stop talking about her, how wonderful and beautiful she was. And then she had at least one child with him, and he would not have needed a rocket to get to the moon, he was so happy. We fell out of touch, but I am sorry things have come to this pass...

  4. Awful story. Hope she is OK.

I'm also wondering why this story appeared in a gossip column and not the metro section? The article says 12 cops were on the scene but the 9th Precinct Capt told the Villager that wasn't true.

None of this takes away from what happened

  5. I feel really bad for her and their son. I always thought they were the classic LES couple and still go and drink at Manitobas every time I return to NYC. She asked people to not go to the bar on her social media so I won't anymore unless she changes that.

  6. I don't understand why the Daily News had to make a point of saying that they have a "large, inexpensive apartment" as if it has any bearing on the rest of the story.

  7. No more Manitoba's for me.

  8. He aint so HANDSOME is he?

  9. I feel like the apartment was mentioned to maybe explain to non NYers why they would still be living together. A cheap big place is hard to come by in this area as we all know but other people may wonder about that. Just a guess.

  10. Wild stuff and certainly with repercussions. Will Magic Dick be able to keep his chin above water? Keep kicking and paddling?

  11. All of these (alleged) wife beaters start out the same way, so very charming and so in love to lure the victim in, and then something snaps, usually right after the wedding, but sometimes it builds up slowly over the years so that the victim doesnt even know she’s being abused until itls too late. Just look at Trump's ex-secretary Rob Porter, he abused 2 wives and a girlfriend, and attacked one of his ex-wives on their honeymoon. You know the honeymoon is over when your husband starts beating you on the honeymoon.

The last time Handsome Dick posted on this website a few years ago it was about his crowdfunding campaign to make his bar ADA compliant. He sounded angry and arrogant, and used ALL CAPS to make his points, as if ALL CAPS make your words sound louder or something, bragging about what a great bar he has. Well this time he might need an even bigger crowdfunding campaign, because a conviction on choking penalties in NY State come with extra jail time these days, plus Zoe already has an order of protection against him. Looks like Happy Hour at Manitoba’s is over for good.

  12. And this is why you don’t live with your ex...

  13. What's his side of the story?

  14. No matter WHAT his side of the story is, you DO NOT assault a woman, no matter WHAT!

  15. Anonymous said... Will Magic Dick be able to keep his chin above water?

You're confusing your Dicks, Anon. The Handsome one was out of The Dictators, and the Magic one was out of J Geils Band.

  16. I hope he has relized that what he did was inexcusable and is very bad. If I were him I would have my attorney issue a public apology to both her and their son and instruct my attorney to send a letter to her or her attorney offering to work out a fair settlement in regards to the bar and that she should let them know what she needs for child support and living expenses and start sending that ASAP.He is facing serious charges and his best bet is to work out a plea bargain to hopefully avoid jail time.Legally his side of the story does not matter when he used violence on her he crossed a line and there is no justification for it. I hope that for the sake of their kid and having seen both of them with him over the years it was easy to see that they both love their son and I hope they can work this out to minimize any damage to their son and that the future will see no more fighting and violence and that when this is hopefully worked out they both move on and have peace.

  17. Abuse is wrong no matter who is serving it out however, if I went to bars I would avoid this one after hearing this.

  18. He turned into a huge ass llloonnngggg ago.
He was head over heels for her in the beginning though.
They were very happy for a few years for sure, but once Manitobas got some notoriety, he acted like he was this big business man, and wasn't an unwashed punk rocker, once upon a time, like the rest of us.
His head got way to big for britches, and he was slightly fat headed to begin with.
Dozens of us stopped speaking to him, years ago.
I've never known him to be abusive however. Sad turn of events.

    1. You have lots of thoughts but very few facts why should that stop you you act like you know my personal life you’re about 1% accurate
There a lot of haters I don’t really give a shit because I know who I am I know what happened I know what happens and I know who my friends are and that’s what I care about the sad turn of events is that you don’t understand when grownups get into it it’s 50 50% 90% of the time but that’s OK make up your mind have your opinions based on whatever it is floating around in your head

Let’s also remember every story has a beginning a middle and an end and by the end you might actually see the story in a different light or you might just want to keep your head close so you could stay right where you are

  19. Don't Bite Me, #metoo has nothing to do with this situation. Here, the police were called, charges were filed, and he appeared in court. Besides, do you think anyone in a fit of rage is going to stop and think about the backlash on Twitter?
