Tarallucci e Vino closed through March for renovations on 1st Avenue

Papered windows and a sign greeted patrons yesterday at Tarallucci e Vino on First Avenue at 10th Street...

Per the signage at the Italian cafe: "After 16 great years ... it's time to spruce things up a bit."

The original Tarallucci e Vino (there are now five locations total in the city) expects to reopen by the end of March.

Thanks to Steven for the photos!

  1. I still prefer the original iteration best, when they sold baked goods on the right where the - what else? - bar is now (I still remember the fabulous pastry cream-filled doughnuts), and it just had a very homey, familial feel. But I'll check it out when it re-opens.

  2. I haven't had one in a couple of years but they had the best croissants around. I say that having lived in Paris for a couple of years. The baked them in house I believe.

  3. when Birdbath closed I started getting my daily coffee and cornetti there, unfortunately the 2 baristas and the Italian girl left and the whole vibe changed, haven't been there in years

As for renovation, get rid of the stupid gelato freezer, and put in a counter or some tables.

  5. Gojira, I haven't been there in a while, do they not do those doughnuts anymore??? They really were great!!! I don't know why I haven't been in so long -- I guess partly because I changed my breakfast habits. Anyway, I hope there will be another one of those doughnuts in my future, eventually.
