Storm brings down this tree on 6th Street

This tree took a fall — roots and all — early this evening during the storm on the north side of Sixth Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue. Thankfully no one was injured, and the car looks to have suffered just minor damage all things considered...

EVG reader Danny shared these photos... showing the NYPD helping clear the tree from the street...

One witness said that the tree's roots were rotted.

  1. The pics show the tree was pruned too and had branches sawed off. If I'm not mistaken this is the third tree to fall in your town in the past 5 days. This is quite alarming. I believe the Parks Dept. is responsible for the monitoring of street trees, they better get on the ball or someone will get killed.

  2. And this is why these storms are so dangerous. Trees and branches will be coming down for the next few days as the snow melts. Stay away from big trees and watch out for those rotten trees in TSP. The City just removed dozens of trees in East RIver Park that were in danger of falling, it’s good thing they did so before this storm arrived

  3. The tree had started budding already, so lots of surface area for heavy, wet snow. Sigh.
