If you'd like to make personal attacks and libelous claims against people and businesses, then you may do so on your own social media accounts. Also, comments predicting when a new business will close ("I give it six weeks") will not be approved.
It’s ironic that we still don't know who the wealthy donors were who paid off Ricketts so that Gothamist could return. Overall it is good news that they are back, but their secretive and very screwed up financing deals put them out of business for almost 6 months. During this time none of their readers could find out about “The 13 Best New Pizza Places in NYC” (sorry Joe & Pat’s, but Mani in Pasta is on the list, you could have been a contender), view endless photos of overcrowded subway platforms, or find out about all those new restaurants that will be closed long before you ever get around to trying them, things we did not know that we couldn't live without until now.

ReplyDelete@Notorious: I loved that Gothamist “Someone walked in paint on the subway and we have the pictures to prove it” story. Thats just the kind of valuable news coverage that all those donors to the Kickstarter campaign were hoping for. I bet old greedy Ricketts is sad he sold Gothamist now!

ReplyDeleteThe best part of Gothamist is probably the comments they ban. Having said that, it's no surprise the site is still garbage.
ReplyDeleteNo surprise they do a full length piece on e-bike deliveries being that the staff as well as their audience subsist on three square meals of food deliveries. Which is the source of the duress the harrowed delivery riders they interviewed go through.
Still, e-bikes are motorcycles. The majority of delivery guys ride them recklessly and now at a majority of grub hub/seamless as well as their competitors doordash and postmates use them too.
Gothamist ties to WNYC, which one commentor on their Disqus platform wittily pointed out have members with ties to city hall (the most corrupt city hall since the days of Tammany, probably worse) and the way they solicited cash through kickstarter despite WNYC's backing and through two anonymous donors is just off-putting and shady.
