Croissanteria, the bakery and cafe offering coffee and a croissant-centric menu, is wrapping up nearly seven years at 68 Avenue A between Fourth Street and Fifth Street.
On Friday, an EVG reader noted a sign on the door saying the shop was closing in the next few days. On Saturday, that sign was gone, replaced by a notice of an auction ("everything for sale"), which takes place April 1 at 1 p.m.
The last day is said to be Wednesday. [Updated 3/28: As of today, the shop was still open.]
The cafe opened in October 2012.

ReplyDeleteThis is a bummer. That place was great for years, until their barista hires started declining. The last two years the staff has been rude / semi-hostile to customers. No fun to be around them.

ReplyDeleteThis is tragic. I loved their pain au chocolat. And their croissant sandwiches, Most of my favorite neighborhoody places have closed in the past year. Their food was good, they were always busy. Why are they closing???

ReplyDeleteUGH! We've been going here since it opened. Been taking our son here since he was born and he LOVES the croissants. I wonder what happened?? I do second that the staff hasn't been great of late and they've been closing a lot earlier than they're supposed to... sigh. So upset about this.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Brian unfortunately, staff have been fairly rude on multiple occasions. The food and coffee were good though.
ReplyDeleteI loved their salads. Everything is good actually. It will be missed, especially since Paradiso on Ave B closed last year. Now the only such place in the southern half of Ave A/B is Native Bean, isn’t it?
ReplyDeleteThis place was strange every time I tried it. Once asked which pastry was their favorite and they replied that "they didn't eat this shit." Okie dokie!
ReplyDeleteNot the best atmosphere ever but it was chill and those croissants were so much better than most cafes hard dry gross croissants. I hope to see another good sandwich and baked goods spot over here.
ReplyDeleteBummer. The service was hit and miss, but they were the best croissants in the neighborhood. One of them along with the fresh OJ they served and a cup of your favorite coffee drink was a great way to start the day.

ReplyDeleteAgree with some of the comments regarding service and consistency. Something changed over the last two years with staff. Perhaps management too? The first five years or so it was a friendly place with familiar faces and good service then it became a place where it felt like customers weren't exactly welcome and staff seemed bothered to do anything. Maybe they knew something we didn't but I finally stopped going in. Too many other options in the neighborhood.
