The Donut Pub outpost on Astor Place opens TODAY

At long last the second location of The Donut Pub opens this morning at 6 at 740 Broadway and Astor Place.

This outpost was originally expected to open last fall (per the DP signage out front).

And no word yet if this location will be open 24/7 like the original.

That first Donut Pub has been on 14th Street and Seventh Avenue since December 1964. The no-frills, diner-like space once prompted New York magazine to write: "In a Krispy-Kreme and Dunkin' Donut world, it's comforting to know there are still places E.B. White might have recognized during his ambulations through the streets of New York."

  1. I actually miss the rundown look from the Chelsea location. It makes it more cozy and local.

  2. I know you can't go home again and everything, but this interior looks disturbingly slick compared to the original. Oh well you have to cater to the new crowd I suppose.

  4. Welcome to the neighborhood Donut Pub! Who would think that a newly opened place doesn't doesn't have the 50-year-old patina of its older sister restaurant?!

Grub Street wrote a fantastic article about the owner and his daughter: http://www.grubstreet.com/2019/02/donut-pub-opens-a-new-doughnut-shop-in-noho.html The daughter is to blame for the slick interior -- good on her for trying to get a brick-and-mortar business going in this day and age.

Please ignore the EVGrumps, they complain about everything!

  5. Love donuts. But sad to say 3 hours later I can still taste Donut Pub. Also $5.50 for 2 donuts is a bit high... unless they're charging by the hour and including my acid reflux 3 hours later.

  6. Yeah. I've always loved the original in Chesea (used to stop there on way home from allnighters at work).
BUT, I do have to say, the donuts are pretty crappy. The coffee's even worse.

  8. If anyone from Donut Pub is reading this: please bring back the coconut donuts. All the different kinds. And the newly hired people are all really chipper, can you ask them to tone it down a bit, at least until they give me my coffee?
