Per a reader:
The dog was found with a necktie as a makeshift collar and a chain as a makeshift leash. No real collar or tags.
The girl who found him asked around the dog park if anyone recognized him, but none of us did. He didn't look that old and seemed in decent shape (like he had been taken care of) so maybe he was lost vs. abandoned.
The person who found him will take him to a vet to see if there's a chip...
Updated:
The vet didn't find a chip. The dog is currently in a loving foster home.
Eve I hope there is a follow up to this story. I may have a candidate who would adopt.
ReplyDeleteThis dog kinda looks like the dog I see with a woman who sleeps by the Link kiosk at the corner of 4th and 1st Ave. Though this dogs looks in slightly better shape. Next time I pass her, I'll ask (or see if she has her dog).
ReplyDeleteIf there is no chip, ok please check with Animal Haven if they can take the dog in. They’re a great shelter and rescue and adopt out all their residents. Please do not bring to the ACC. Another choice would be Humane Society.
ReplyDeleteTo Creature, I think I've seen the young (caucasian?) woman? Is she the lady who had an older boyfriend who would sometimes have the dog in front of the Bowery Whole Foods? I've seen him again lately, without the dog.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes rubygirl is right, please tell the reader to bring the dog to Animal Haven if need be. They are a terrific organization I donate to monthly.
@rubygirl: True, the ACC is an overcrowded kill shelter, but a small dog would likely be given priority.
ReplyDeleteI agree Animal Haven or the Humane Society is a much better choice.
@creature @eastvillagesiren this isn't the dog whose owner stays on fourth st and 1st ave. that woman has a blonde shih tzu/lhasa apso - i saw them today
ReplyDeleteAny updates?
