Brasserie Saint Marc opened at 136 Second Ave. between St. Mark's Place and Ninth Street back in October.
Management is now hoping to amend their method of operation by offering live music and boozy brunches, among other enhancements, according to materials (PDF here) posted to the CB3 website ahead of this month's SLA committee meeting on Monday (Jan. 13).
Here's a thumbnail overview of the numerous requests/changes via CB3:

One EVG observer who lives nearby notes the proposed changes are sounding more in line with the method of operation of a bar-club rather than of a French restaurant.
The CB3-SLA committee meeting is Monday night at 6:30 in the Perseverance House Community Room, 535 E. Fifth St. between Avenue A and Avenue B.
This application has loud destination club written all over it.
ReplyDeleteWhen this renovation began a few years ago, I stopped to help Karin, a co-owner, get her stroller thru the door. She asked me to sign a SLA petition for the coming restaurant. When I protested that this neighborhood was already a sh*tshow of screaming drunks, honking horns, and trendies that started on Thursday afternoon & continued thru Sunday A.M., she assured me that this was going to be a sedate upscale restaurant serving good wine & food. Now it's live music and special drink nights (i.e. drink till you're blotto & stumble onto the street). I should've listened to my first instinct. Just more drunken ho's & bro's. I will never go near this place nor encourage anyone else to.

ReplyDeleteSad. We just went by there the other day and checked out the menu--$24 burger?--but didn't expect it to be another shitshow establishment. Thought they were aiming higher than that.
ReplyDeleteWent here for a work holiday dinner, despite very slow bar service, really enjoyed it and the food. Not happy to see it become a "club" if that is truly what this implies. Do not get the add Jukebox and Karaoke, add Video/Arcade Games idea as that is very much not the vibe inside.

ReplyDeleteYea um er NO! yet another sneak attack of shady operators who basically want to cash in on as another commenter put it the "BarBroCulture" that has been killing the streets and general vibe of our great neighborhood. So they couldn’t make back the million plus investment in a few months with over priced and often shoddy food (the bigos is not edible) so now LIVE music is the answer, really?? please give me a break, you gotta soundproof room for this? no you don’t if the community board approves this travesty it’s a sure sign that they do not have a clue or give a shit about the neighborhood and what it’s residents want.

Huh. When Bar 82 closed, the landlord supposedly said they wanted anything that was not a bar or restaurant. This is the complete opposite. I wonder what changed?
