8 blocks of Avenue B are now open for pedestrians and bikers (and local traffic)
Avenue B will be closed to through traffic today and tomorrow from Sixth Street to 14th Street — .39 miles in total ...
This stretch is part of the 13 miles of open streets citywide this weekend that Mayor de Blasio announced yesterday... all being done in an attempt to help residents get some fresh air while social distancing.
Local traffic for pick ups and drop offs as well as deliveries are allowed behind the police barricades.
The hours: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Did it this morning. It should have went from 14th Street to Houston, not stopping at 6th Street. And sorry, the "local traffic" exemption could be abused. We shall see.
ReplyDeleteOnly 2 rainy holiday weekend days ?
ReplyDeleteClose most of Tompkins Square Park and open avenue B. Ya, makes sense...
ReplyDeleteThis is war on cars BS pushed through under the guise of safety during covid. Well covid distancing is over, but no surprise the barricades remain. And today Ave B is completely closed from 8th - 9th with just a bunch of empty tables in the road. This is really a war on the middle class - those of us trying to drive and park and work in our own neighborhood. Pedestrians belong on sidewalks and cars are roads. Where will you all be when the middle class finally just leaves the city all together, and takes are tax money and labor with us? Right where you deserve to be.
