Here's your Ralph's signage on Avenue A



As we've been reporting, an outpost of Ralph's Famous Italian Ices & Ice Cream is coming to 145 Avenue A and Ninth Street.

And as you can see, the Ralph's signage has arrived. (Thanks to Steven for the photo!)

The business dates to 1928 when Ralph Silvestro started selling Italian ice (or water ice) from his truck around Staten Island. The first retail store opened in 1949 on Port Richmond Avenue in Staten Island. In recent years the company has franchised out, expanding to other parts of NYC as well as Long Island, New Jersey and Westchester County.

No word about an opening date just yet for Ralph's.

      you should be thrilled to see a new business open. do you understand that ave a is probably going to be a ghost town? does anyone really understand how bad it's going to be around here? the empty stories aren't coming back. neither are the bars, bros, or most restaurants . jersey shore? more like skid row in Los Angeles. please wake up.

    Guessing they will re-open right after the heat wave breaks in October, when no one will want ice cream.

      Ralph's is seasonal. The Ralph's on Second Avenue & 22nd Street closed around Halloween last year. Ditto for the Ralph's on 24th near Lexington that closed when the building was sold. Always had just a take out counter and seasonal, unless they change their policy. I like them, a little pricey, considering there is no place to sit, but good product.

    Ralph’s is one of the better places to get ice cream on a hot day. I wish them well.

    If you’re up near Fairway on 2nd Avenue check out Surreal Creamery on 30th St. Their bubble tea with soft serve ice cream are incredible ( and huge) and they also serve ice cream sundae concoctions in real Mason jars.

    Ralph's is classic New York, not Jersey Shore. Would you have preferred this to have stayed GelArto?

    In regards to the above comments about empty storefronts, walking around lately I have seen quite a few empty storefronts now papered over with/or construction going on inside. Surprising but true!
